Today we discussed how sleep (or lack there of) could be holding you back from your weight loss and health goals.
Walkie-Talkies takes place the 4th Tuesday of every month. Each session starts with a 15-minute overview on a health/wellness topic by Health & Wellness Connections member, followed by a 45-60 minute, go-at-your-own-pace walk. Itโs a great way to chat with health/wellness practitioners and like-minded individuals while enjoying fresh air and healthy activity.

4th of July is right around the corner! Time is flying, but I'm excited to get outside, soak up the sun, hang out with friends, and whip up a bunch of summer food.
If you're wondering what to make for the 4th, I've created a mini-menu with a few recipes you can't go wrong with.
You can enjoy this season, all the good food that comes with it and stay on track with your health goals!

This 3 ingredient ๐Strawberry Chia Jam ๐ recipe is simple to make, healthy and delicious.
It can be made with any berry, fresh or frozen. What more could you ask for?
Ingredients:
3 cups of berries frozen or fresh
2 tablespoon maple syrup to taste
2 tablespoon chia seeds
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine berries and maple syrup, stirring frequently until a smooth consistency begins to form.
2. Once the berries begin breaking down, reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.
3 โฃUse a fork or a potato masher to mush the jam and make sure it is smooth.
3. Add in the chia seeds, stirring frequently for about 15 minutes until the mixture thickens.
4. Once thick, remove the pot from the heat.
5. Cool completely before pouring into a mason jar for storage.

I love being outside, sitting on the lawn, and enjoying a good BBQ, especially when my Dad is the one grilling! He's a master. ๐ฅ

Today, I want to share some healthy swaps!
The more we become aware of what is in our food, and how it affects us, the more conscious we have been about which brands to pick.
Most ketchup and bbq sauces are loaded with unnecessary amounts of added sugar. In fact, recent studies show that on average Americans consume 6 CUPS OF SUGAR a week! That's insane when the recommended amount is 42 tsp a week (6 tsp a day). And, it's often hidden in condiments and pre-packed foods.
Kraft mayo is condensed processed seed oils, and most pickle brands have artificial food colorings. All of these ingredients are unnecessary and linked to negative health outcomes. A general rule of thumb, pick a refrigerated pickle over shelf-stable.
Fortunately, there are some better brands to choose from!

โทMix all the ingredients together in a bowl or a jar until combined.
โทKeep mixing until the chia pudding starts to thicken slightly to prevent it from clumping!
