TELL ME WHEN I GET IT RIGHT!
Imagine this – You work for someone who continually reprimands you. You never know from one day to the next if there is anything this person is happy with, because the only feedback you receive from them is what you are doing wrong – it’s all just so negative!
You are never thanked for a job well done, never given any positive feedback, recognition or encouragement.
This leaves you feeling demotivated, confused, insecure and unhappy. You have no idea what this person really expects of you or wants from you.
Surely you must be doing something right, some of the time? If only you had more feedback about what that was – you could do more of that and you would both be in a happier place.
We often treat our dogs this way, only focusing or providing feedback on the “wrong” behaviour and neglecting to provide feedback and encouragement for the “right” behaviour.
Rewarding, reinforcing and encouraging a dog for whatever they are doing right is an effective, scientifically proven way to communicate, teach, create trust, build confidence, security and build a strong bond in a positive, force-free way.
Just like us, when a dog does something that results in something good happening, they’re far more likely to keep repeating that behaviour.
Reinforcement or rewards don’t always have to be food or treats – it all depends on what that particular dog finds more rewarding – lots of praise, a favourite toy, playing a game or anything else a dog really enjoys can be rewarding.
Keep telling your dog when they get it right and very soon, they will be doing less of the wrong thing and more of the right thing.
Stop focusing on the unwanted behaviour and communicate to your dog that they are getting it right by rewarding the behaviour you are looking for.

Do Dogs Paws Get Cold In The Snow?
We all enjoy playing in the snow. Young, old, hooman and doggies? But we have shoes and gloves to protect us from the cold, our dogs have nothing. So, do dogs paws get cold in the snow?
The skin on dogs pads is a lot tougher than the skin on our feet, but they can still get cold. In fact, exposure of more than 15 minutes to temperatures around or below freezing (32°F) can pose real risks to our doggies’ unprotected paws.
The cold can be just as dehydrating as the heat. Walking in the snow can cause dry skin, cracking, itching, and soreness in their paw pads. Whilst this is more irritating than dangerous, it could cause your dog to scratch the itches with his teeth and accidentally cut them, leaving their feet open to infection.
Symptoms of a paw infection are limping, swelling, discharge, and a bad smell. If you think your dog’s foot has an infection, tou should take them to their vet for a proper examination and prescription of antibiotics or anti-fungal treatment.
Dog’s paws are well insulated and contains a heat transfer system coupled with fat and tissue that keep dogs from needing shoes, however, this does not always apply to the smaller breeds. You can help keep your dog warm by buying some small boots that may be better to run and hop in the snow, or even for walking on wet and icy conditions.
How Do I Protect my Dog's Paws From the Cold?
Dogs paws can’t freeze, they can still get frostbite. But our dogs playing in the snow – it’s one of the highlights of their year! So how can we protect them?
To treat and prevent dry, cracked paws, and the soreness and itching that comes with it, use paw balm for dogs. They work by moisturizing the pads of the paws, just like hand creams for humans. Just apply a thin layer of balm or oil before and/or after a walk in the cold. Using a balm with natural ingredients is best in case they lick some off.
Alternatively, you could use vaseline and it works just the same when moisturizing dogs’ skin as it does our own. It also helps to seal the skin, making it an ideal pre-walk protective treatment. However, it can have a laxative effect on dogs when eaten. So, don’t use it post-walk when your dog could lick it off.
Keeping their feet clean and tidy will also help. Regular grooming during winter such as nail trimming and fur trimming will help keep your dog’s feet clean when playing outside or going on walks. It also minimizes the amount of debris that will get stuck in your dog’s feet.
Always inspect and clean your dog’s feet after they’ve been out in the cold weather – especially in public areas. Check for and gently remove any ice, snow, or debris in between their pads. Then, wash them with warm water to remove dirt and melt any ice that you can’t get out by hand. Ice that is stuck will obviously melt eventually but could cause your dog to slip and hurt themselves in the meantime.
Washing your dog’s feet will also remove any harmful deicing chemicals that are often mixed in with the snow in public places. These are very dehydrating and harmful and could cause your dog’s feet to dry out or become infected. They are also extremely poisonous and potentially life-threatening if your dog licks even a tiny amount off of his feet.
What temperature is too cold for a dog’s paws?
Frostbite occurs in freezing temperatures, this is anything around or below 32°F. Although, small dogs and greyhounds may start to feel uncomfortable in anything below 50°F.
No dog should have prolonged exposure or be made to sleep outside in these temperatures, even those with thick coats.

Here at Izzy's Natural Doggie Treats, I believe that our doggie’s shouldn’t be the ones to go without.
The numbers of pets being surrendered to rescue centres or worse, dumped is so sad.
With stores increasing their prices just so the top dogs can continue their lavish lifestyle infuriates me.
I have kept my prices the same, I’m not in to getting rich, I’m happy when my customers and their dogs are happy. 🐾💕🐾💙
Very soon the weather will change and get colder and the roads and gritting will start as soon as the weather changes!!
Please note that the grit, salt and antifreeze are toxic to dogs and a skin irritant so please be careful to clean their feet after your late night / early morning walk. A quick wash with warm water should be enough or you can use a pet wipe it it is easier.
If you think your dog has ingested some grit or de-icer, then please call your vet or insurance helpline for advice on what to do next.
