Kitten Fairy
This page is dedicated to one of the most vulnerable creatures in the world! Kittens!
We got two new babies a couple days ago now! Isela wanted to help me! This baby has a great latch, he is collapsing that bottle on his own and he's a newborn!
This is the first time I've taken in an out of jurisdiction kitten and got it to the right one!
Wished I could have kept her until weaning, but there is a protocol that must be followed for the best possible out come for everyone involved!
Here is Zucchini on the SDHS website on stray hold. 😀
We also have a new kitten yesterday named Zucchini. We have no idea how long Zucchini will be staying. We still need to figure out what jurisdiction she belongs to and it might not be the one I foster for...until then she will be here with me.
My look at how much everyone has grown!
I've upgraded them to the XL crate earlier this week! I think they like it?! Had to put my set up in another part of the house due to the Panlukopenia.
They have had yet another out break of that virus and also canine distemper broke out at the shelter again and this time it was in the display/adoption area of the shelter and well they are completely shut down right now.
No moving in or out! I had supplies delivered to my house vs going to pick up as well. I also did get a new kitten yesterday! I'll have to post his picture!
Marty is also still here with us too! I'll have to post an update on her and post a video of her adorable but wobbly self hahahaha 😆
All my kittens are doing fabulous 👌🏽 we did have some sniffles and a couple with urinary tract infections. Im assuming from suckling because I did have to separate them. The vet prescribed a bit of antibiotics and cleared everything up! Everyone's eyes are open now too!
As per usual I've been incredibly busy nursing kittens, training puppies, all while taking care of my family including my mom, it's all been a bit much and I landed in the hospital last week all while my husband was underway. I'm okay, I survived that, and a course of antibiotics for myself was due.
I will work on getting more updates with the kittens 😸 here are some cute pictures from today's butt bathtime. 😍
I've got 5 new babies! They have umbilical cords. Umbilical cord falls off around day 4-5. So we can guesstimate that they are young than that!
It's been a month since I've brought anything new home. The last time I went to the shelter there was another Panluk outbreak, I didn't bring new ones home as a result.
That's all over now though cause I was promptly sent home with these littles 😆
So far everything seems okay with them. I got a nice strong latch from every single one. Fingers 🤞🏽. It's been one hell of a season so far.
Marty had her first vet visit since discovering she is wobbly. I've sent video to the vet but since we were on quarantine due to Panlukopenia as long as she didn't have emergency problems my job was to keep trucking and keep this baby thriving.
The vet hands down believes this is Cerebellar Hypoplasia. This won't stop her from having a great quality of life though. She's just different and she will always have a wobble.
Today she is happy to finally get out of her box and explore! With supervision!
Alright it's Marty's turn!
Let's feed stinky! Thats what I named him cause man 😆 he was stinky.
Here is the latest development from one of my remaining kittens. This my very first wobbly kitten. We have named her Marty.
This to me looks like Cerebellar Hypoplasia or wobbly kitten syndrome. This neurological condition is consistent with Panlukopenia. This condition happens when the pregnant cat has Panlukopenia and passes it on prenatal. The virus will attack the cerebellum during it's final rapid period or growth before birth. This part of the brain is responsible for fine motor skills and movement. The condition can effect only one kitten in a litter or it could affect all kittens in the litter.
Hopefully with some daily physical therapy she can recover a bit as she grows.

This is tuxy boy. He tested positive for Panlukopenia a couple days ago. He came from a batch of 17 kittens that came into the shelter at the same time and it had broke out at the shelter then.
It's not been a great kitten season this year for any of the fosters. We are all losing kittens left and right. Sadly this maybe the reason why.
I have so much going on right now in my own personal life and I was blaming myself for not being attentive enough. I had another anxiously busy Saturday coming up and I noticed he just wasn't looking right. He wasn't crashing or anything, but wasn't excited about getting breakfast Friday morning. Since I was expecting a busy weekend I decided it would be best to be seen by the vet before I try taking on the weekend.
I was thinking maybe get some meds on board or something. It looked like he was developing a upper respiratory virus because he was starting to get crust in his eye.
The Panlukopenia at the shelter has been presenting like it's a upper respiratory this year apparently. So they tested and it was positive.
They decided it would be best to humanely euthanize little tuxy boy because I do have other kittens right now testing negative amd they are thriving at the moment. I hope it continues and it doesn't develop in my remaining kittens.
I have another with diarrhea which is one of the number one symptom. He is testing negative but he could be incubating.
I do keep every one separated when they are from separate litters and they get their own bottles but cross contamination can happen very easily still.
We were litteraly almost done with quarantine! Just a couple more days and bam!
Right now there will be no kittens coming in and out of my house. They were really trying to send me home with 5 babies all needing tube feedings not expected to survive either. That was a no go after this discovery.
The resident cats are vaccinated but I still keep them in another part of the house along with my oldest foster. He had to be taken off the surgery schedule until this thing dies down.
I also been keeping him downstairs with us because of his age and he's a singleton. I felt so bad for him being alone and so I put him with the puppy. I moved into the family room last weekend to be closer to the yard for potty training. He should be safe as I keep the kittens up stairs in my bathroom inboxes!
Thankfully they aren't walking yet and the contamination should be limited to my bathroom sink and the tools I used for them.
So, that's the update! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

I have Panlukopenia in my house 😢 😭
Those little muscles twitching! 😍
Got the top two NB kittens yesterday and the bottom two are 2 week Olds that I've had for almost a week and a half.
The top two kittens are milk drunk 🥴
This sets of kittens are more robust than the ones I've been getting. I have good feelings about these ones 😄
It was a crazy night last night and a full morning at the shelter with the vet.
My foster, who has had some sort of infection since day 1 has developed a pneumonia from being a fast and messy eater.
He also always had problems putting on weight. No surprise there cause he was always battling something. I knew to be on the look out for this because of the way he was eating but I never expected it to present the way it did which was suddenly.
I was given the choice to humanely euthanize him right then. I for sure don't want him to suffer. After a few moments I decided to let him choose whether he wants to live or not.
As of right now he still walks around and rights himself. This is enough for me to say we can keep going. We started treatment and I was given all the tools to maintain his supportive care at home.
Now we fight this thing..if I see that there is no improvement or he worsens I will take him so we may help him cross over the rainbow Bridge.
Hahahaha 😆
Here's a video of the kitten..she's not on her side so much anymore which is a good sign.
This is a comparison video. This is how I can tell something is wrong..these are the signs to look for and what normal looks like.
I do not have any pictures yet, but I had to pick up two more newborn kittens from the shelter.
There was a flood of 16 kittens that came in. I took in two more that need intensive care. I now have a total of 5.
They came with their placenta still intact. I'm for sure the mom was very sick and probably died because these guy reek of rotten flesh.
I was sure one of them was going to pass away in the middle of the night. He doesn't look too thrifty.
Wish me luck and send prayers..were going to need it. Thank you.
This little girl just came in! She was ice cold. I just gave her first meal now that she is warmed up! Weighing a whole 77grams.
I know it's been a while, because these guys are about 4 weeks old!
Things have gone well considering that I wasn't sure if they would thrive being that they were so tiny!
The black kitten has had several infections, but some how we got through every single one. Now we are just dealing with a bit of diarrhea. 🥴
Today, I've let them out to play and explore. This was exciting because I've had to keep them separate since the first few days I had them do to suckling. They need to continue that way most likely until after being fully weaned. Sometimes even after that.
However, they need to play and interact. It's very important for behavioral development. So, I gave them a safe supervised place to do so. 😊
Taking it one day at a time with this little and his brother which I posted a picture of earlier in the week.
Other than the fact that these kittens are freakishly small they seem to be okay.
They are steadily gaining weight. We started at 70 grams each. This morning we are at 95(blk kitten) and 102g(brw/wht kitten). Huge win. The black kitten is needing the most support right now when eating. He doesn't have a strong latch.
They lose fluids very quickly and juggling back and forth the inputs vs. outputs is tiring as feedings must happen every two hours including in the night. Had I not, they wouldn't have the best shot. Sometimes they nurse and sometimes they don't. In those cases I help them and for now their little bodies are doing what they need it too and we are still kicking! 🙏🏽
Thanks everyone for your healing energy and prayers! They are working ✨️❤️
He is so tiny!! Had to resort to tube feeding exclusively, but we made it through our first night.
I could use a nap!!
Spring is in full swing first puppies, now kittens! Going to have to change my page name! 🤣 Maybe Karen's Neonates? 🤔
Anyway, I'm going to need best wishes, prayers, positive vibes etc what ever it is you are into. w
We could use your light.
These guys are incredibly small and weighing both 70-80 grams. 😯 Some of our county's protocols in San Diego for neonates is that if they are under 100grams they should be euthanized because of the rate of failure to thrive.
However, Not the shelter I volunteer for. They are going to let me give it a try. Here we go!
New babies. I'm supposed to only be keeping them over the weekend but I have a feeling Ill be keeping them until ready for adoption. 🤣
They are sick with feline herpes virus. So here's to hoping we make it through.
My supervisor was fostering them, but she has horses and will be showing them this weekend. She won't have the time to give them what they need.
She said there is only one more person besides me that she trusts to take care of them, but that person is also dealing with something and doesn't have time for them either.
So, here we are and here we go!
Eyes opened today so, we are about 10-12 days old. 🤗
At the drive thru at Jamba Juice
Employee: Can I ask what's in the box?
Me: Sure. There are kittens in the box.
Employee: Can I see!?
Me: Sure, I'll pull into the parking lot.
The 2 Employees in there abandon their job for a few moments to come outside and love on the kittens 😸 🤣
This is a bit of a long post, but here is the story of my three little amigo's
It's been a while since my last post and that's because Tiny didn't make it y'all. She passed away about 15 hours or so after the post I made of her. 😭
I feel like I failed her but at the same time we all knew when I left with her and her siblings that day that she possibly wouldn't make it. It was truly a Longshot.
Her siblings were headed the same way because they also were starting to crash and fade.
Shortly after reporting the news to the veterinarian and my higher up I was told that there had been an outbreak of Panlukopenia. A disease that sometimes presents itself as vomiting, diarrhea, and sudden death. It is comparable to canine parvo in dogs.
After learning that I popped my behind into the next gear because I was in a race to keep these babies alive. Supportive care is all I could do for these guys. There isn't a cure.
I asked the veterinarian and supervisor for a list of supplies and other essentials that could have helped save Tiny. Things such as needles to administer fluids subcutaneously, syringes, kitten pedialyte, complex vitamin b12, and medications to kill any and all underlying parasitic infections that they could possibly have. They didn't hesitate and I was given all the needed supplies to give Tiny's siblings the best chance of survival.
I had to force feed them for days because they were losing weight between 15-30 grams in weight every day from fluid losses and diarrhea. For a kitten this size it's almost like a human baby losing that amount in ounces. I'd pump them up one day to get the up to speed and they would drop it all the very next day.
It was very frightening to know that I might fail again with the remaining three. I did everything I needed to keep their heads above water while we fought through this ordeal.
Today I'm happy to share with you all that I believe we made it out of the woods! It's all working. Everyone is eating like champs now and they have all doubled in weight (200g) since we started to really up the ante.
Everyone is displaying happier, healthier, energetic vibes! These are all signs of thriving kittens! Just look at them go! 😍
My reward has finally come! 🙌🏽 💖
We can't have sunshine 🌞with out a little bit of rain 🌧 and I'm reminded once again on why I do what I do for these little guys! My grief, hard efforts, and sleepless nights didn't go in vain.
This is Tiny! She is so smol!! Based on the fact that canines and incisors usually come in at about 3 weeks and her premolars are erupting now, I think she's about 4-5weeks old. She's also weaned and eating on her own.
She weighs 230 grams which is extremely under weight for her age. She's the size of a two week old kitten. She should be weighing 500-600grams at this age. Here is an apple to compare her size too. This apple is bigger than she is!
I was called yesterday to come pick her and her siblings up to see if I can support her weight and growth a little bit better.
I've been overwhelmed with family matters and the people at the shelter were trying to give me a break, but this matter was urgent because the shelter has had a lot of kitten's passaway yesterday morning. They did not want her to be next and neither do I. So we did a kitten swap because I already had 7 kitten's in my care.
Here's to hoping I can pull her through this. She looks to be in good spirits despite the fact that she is extremely under weight which I like, but we never know when they will turn for the worst. I need all the good luck and prayers here! 🙏🏽
All of a sudden it's a full house! There are 5 boxes worth of kittens here. I need a built in kitten nursery added to our home! 🤣🤣🤣
How many kittens can you count?
Name suggestions are appreciated!
Went to the shelter yesterday for my fosters check ups and brought these four transitional babies home with me after because they were losing weight and could use some extra care and attention. ❤️
