STATEMENT FROM THE LABOUR PARTY
No Room For Political Opportunists in Labour Party
The leadership of the Labour Party like most Nigerians read in the social media the purported resignation of the former Director General of our Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Doyin Okupe from the Labour Party. Ordinarily, we wouldn't have responded but because of media attraction it has been generating since yesterday. Needless to say that after the general election, a few members of the party had left while many others have also joined the party. It is within the rights of any Nigerian to associate with any political parties of their choice.
In the letter said to have been addressed to our National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, which is yet to be received, Okupe cited ideological conflict as the reason he left Labour Party, he also addressed Labour Party pejoratively as a "Special Purpose Vehicle".
This response wouldn't have been necessary if Okupe had left quietly or perhaps claim 'personal reasons' for his actions but by way of him demeaning a party believed to have won majority of votes by Nigerians but was denied victory by the Nigerian system was clearly a mischief carried too far.
Okupe is aware that the Labour Party is ideologically rooted in the left of the center and he admitted that he has been a rightist and a Liberal Democrat all his entire life, one wonders what he was looking for in a party that is diametrically opposed to his ideological leaning. What kind of political harlotry was he exhibiting by finding no qualms in jumping from one party to another with such ease.
His exit from Labour Party is not in anyway surprising to us. In a true character of traditional politicians who moves from place to another, he was in PDP, from PDP to APC and then Labour Party and we won't be surprised if he goes back to his vomit and embrace either APC or PDP all over again. It is all about where food is ready.

Labour Party is an ideological party, it has a clear cut ideology which supports equal opportunity and social justice. It is specifically not a place for people like Doyin Okupe. Our system in Labour Party does not support political opportunists. The system will naturally expose such political characters and eject them. I ask again, had Labour Party declared winner of the presidential election, will Okupe remain with the party or jump ship in adherence to his ideological leaning.
We must recall that Okupe was forced to abdicate office half way into the campaign because of the baggages he came with from the other party where he served. The courts whipped him into early political menopause, so he really didn't contribute much into the Labour Party's success in the 2023 electoral voyage, however we are glad he acknowledged that we offered him shelter.
Finally, the leadership of the Labour Party wishes him well in his future political adventure. We will however remain positive that a new Nigeria is still possible.

Wishing all our christian brothers and sisters a joyful and peaceful Christmas celebration.
Merry Christmas from Labour Party Lagos State.
*HOW MUCH MORE CAN NIGERIANS TAKE?*
We have read with shock, the alleged accidental bombing perpetrated by the Nigerian army in Kaduna killing more than 120 people. Mothers, fathers, sons and daughters killed in such a gruesome manner by the carelessness of a government with no tangible explanation given.
Lives shattered tragically within the blink of an eye.
A government that continues to choke Nigerians financially, emotionally and physically while they continue to spend outrageous amounts of tax payers money on frivolous and vain activities that do not benefit the common man in any way.
As with so many tragedies that have happened under this government, we eagerly await a muted and implausible statement from them regarding this unfortunate tragedy.
We find ourselves once again grappling with the profound sorrow and anguish brought about by another avoidable catastrophe.
We are forced to ask ourselves HOW MUCH MORE CAN NIGERIANS TAKE.
The heart-wrenching reality is that these were not casualties of war but victims of a grave error, adding an extra layer of sorrow to an already devastating situation.
In the face of this tragedy, we demand that the responsible authorities conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the accidental bombing in Kaduna.
The military, as a revered institution tasked with safeguarding the nation, must be held accountable for this grievous error. Only through a meticulous examination of the facts can justice be served and lessons learned to prevent a recurrence.
While we seek accountability for the tragedy, we must remind the government that it is equally crucial to focus on providing immediate assistance and long-term rehabilitation for the affected residents of Kaduna.
What is the government doing regarding providing the necessary humanitarian efforts to address the urgent needs of those who have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones or are they waiting for the civil society and the international community to act before providing the necessary assistance to the people affected by this.
While we wait eagerly for the usual cacophony of lies, mistruths and cover ups regarding this sordid affair, we wish to commiserate with the victims of this tragedy and pray that God in his infinite mercies have mercy on the souls of the departed.

*COP 28 Summit: This culture of waste must end for Nigeria to make progress*
Nigeria’s huge delegation of 1,411 to the United Nations COP 28 on Dubai is a continuation of the culture of waste which the All Progressives Congress APC administration has become infamous for.
It is sad that a government which has been preaching to Nigerians to tighten their belts and sacrifice for the economy to pick up; is involved in this wasteful venture. There is no moral justification for the Federal Government of Nigeria to deplete our scarce foreign reserves to sponsor over 1,411 persons on what is the obviously a shopping spree for cronies and government apologists.
Why would a government which is currently engaged in approaching lenders to borrow money to pay salaries and meet other obligations embark on such a waste?
The answer is not far fetched, this government is not interested in the wellbeing of citizens. It is only interested in satisfying the luxurious lifestyles of those in power and those close to it.
Nigeria has diplomatic ties with the UAE, we have an embassy, trained and efficient diplomats who if allowed to do their jobs, can provide all the support Mr. President and the ministers of Trade and Investment as well as Foreign Affairs and a number of captains of industries need to fully represent Nigeria at the summit.
But no. This wasteful administration must fulfill the fantasies of its cronies who are in a constant look out for opportunities to waste public funds.
The Naira is today trading at over N1,200 to $USD 1, the 2024 budget recently submitted to the National Assembly does not inspire confidence because it lacks any ounce of seriousness to provide the necessary atmosphere to support small businesses and stimulate the economy for growth.
Inflation is at all time high the security situation is dire with killings, kidnappings and all forms of violence being unleashed on Nigerians by non-state actors.
This administration and its officials appear not to have a clue as to what to do to deal with these challenges but take every opportunity to hop on planes at tax payers expense to escape from the country unde

Like our presidential candidate in the 2023 election Mr. Peter Obi, has alway said, we must end this culture of waste and improve our capacity for production in order to compete at the global stage.
We must begin to look inwards to improve our productivity by supporting local businesses, cut the cost of governance and operate a lean bureaucracy in order to ensure Nigerians get real value for money.
Then and only then can we be on the path of real growth.
