Route 54 Closed in Ralpho and Mount Carmel Townships, Northumberland County,

Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that Route 54 is closed in both directions between Route 487 in Ralpho Township and Route 61 in Mount Carmel Township, Northumberland County, due to multiple crashes.

* Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9
inches.

* Portions of central Pennsylvania.

* From midnight tonight to 1 PM EST Tuesday.

* Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous
conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

* Rain will turn to snow overnight. The snow
is expected to be heaviest during a 4 to 6 hour period late
tonight into mid-morning on Tuesday. Snowfall rates of an inch
or more per hour are possible during this period. Snowfall rates
this intense would slow travel significantly and make it
dangerous during the morning commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania
Turnpike Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all
travel restrictions and delay unnecessary travel as significant
winter weather conditions will make travel very hazardous.

before turning to snow, becoming steadier and heavier Monday
night. Snowfall rates greater than 1 inch per hour may occur
overnight into early Tuesday morning. Accumulations in the
valleys will be lighter than on the hill tops as the rain may
last longer in the valleys.

Girardville cancels St. Patrick's parade
Organizers say the parade won't go on this year. Instead, a block party of sorts is in the works for the St. Patrick's Day holiday.

GIRARDVILLE, Pa. — St. Patrick's parade season is just over a month away, but this year, one in Schuylkill County has been canceled.

Organizers of Girardville's St. Patrick's Day Parade posted on their website that due to unforeseen circumstances, there will not be a parade this year.

They further say that they are working on having a St. Patrick's block party instead with more details to come.
