A great day had by all at the Terling & Fairstead Open Gardens 2024

An utterly magnificent evening spent with the lovely ladies of at the Old Rectory no less and with Mr Leigh in attendance. Their summer party on the lawn was delightful. We did some fun writing exercises and then they feasted on paella. Here I am with most of the committee. I love the WI!

As always, a huge huge thank you to and ‘Mr Leigh’ (Nick) for coming again to us at . We just love having you here!

Whilst Mr Leigh was cooking us THE MOST delicious Paella, Ruth gave us some super fun writing tasks to do. Not only did we work together on these, the stories that evolved were amazing. Well done ladies!

Calling all enthusiastic embroiderers! 🧵

We are looking for members to take on a project to embroider these panels to attach to tablecloths for our stands and shop at events. The panels are approximately 31cm x 31cm.

The great British weather strikes again 🌧️

So much work goes into organising these events, it’s heartbreaking when the organisers have to cancel at the last minute. We’re so sorry it couldn’t go ahead. We’ll see you next year!

have a stall at the Hatfield Peverel Party in the Park on Saturday.

We’ll have various craft items for sale as well as our scones (which sold out last year!).

It’s a great event in the neighbouring village, so why not come down and see what it’s all about?

We had a super fun evening with Sue tonight, learning all about her life as a Belly Dancer 💃🏼

She demonstrated four different styles of Belly Dancing she has performed throughout her career (thankfully, she left the snakes at home 🐍!) before we had a go ourselves!

Who knew that Turkish, Greek and Egyptian Belly Dancing was so different! And then just to add to the mix, with multiple snakes too!

Thank you Sue for stepping in at such short notice, we had a really lovely evening, lots of laughs and super fun!

Unfortunately, our booked speaker for this evening had to cancel last minute due to having COVID.
So, instead of having Hats and Fascinators, we’re having a Belly Dancing demo instead!

Our president Lucy Harrison entered the Terling International Trifle Festival today. This is a special village event raising money for the local church.

It was a tough competition with 20 adult and 4 children’s entries, but she made it into the final four, and came second!!

A huge well done to all who entered!

Well done Lucy for your Lotus Biscoff Brownie Cheesecake Trifle, it was a huge hit and the first trifle bowl to empty!

The numbers are in….

The final total raised for was a whopping £7,596.06. But, the donations are still coming in!

Still overwhelmed with the support we received on the day, the weather played a huge part of course (possibly the hottest day of the year so far?!) but people came from near and far to visit us.

What else can we say other than, thank you! 🤩

I made sure I thanked every single person individually on the day but after a quick count up, I am humbled by your generosity and support 🤩

A very big thank you to Lord and Lady Rayleigh for opening their beautiful garden and allowing me to organise this once again. Heather Cutler who helped produce the wonderful brochure. Roger, Dawn and Peter Webb for their time with the Poppy Express. The church, the beautiful open gardens, the school choir, and my small army of volunteers! Chris and Clare, Andrew and Anne, Glen and Marge, Yvonne and Teresa, Mel, Stacey, Louisa and Andy, John and Joanne, David, Jo & family, and the fab WI ladies; Tamasin, Clare, Wendy, Charlotte, Deb, Jenny, Denise, Sandra, Adele, Tracey & Elaine.

The sponsors, with their kind donations it enabled us to cover all costs and therefore, everything raised went straight to Farleigh. Thank you!

Last but not least, Tim, who not only did a fab job directing the traffic at Church Green when Bromwell Leaze was full, but also kept people entertained throughout the day whilst waiting for the Poppy Express to return!

I’m still so overwhelmed by the amount of people who came, an amazing turnout! The village was buzzing!

I’m sure I might have forgotten someone, and if I have I apologise, but I really appreciate all your help, and supporting this wonderful charity.

Terling & Fairstead Open Gardens 2024
Sunday 19th May, 11-4pm.

The weather looks good, and we can’t wait to welcome you! Refreshments served in most of the 11 gardens, with a special BBQ and bar in garden no.2!

Stalls include, local honey, local artist and ICE CREAM 🍦 plants stalls, craft stalls, open church and some beautiful walks. What more could you want on a sunny Sunday?

Cricket is also on at Terling Cricket Club so if want a pit stop between gardens, the views are delightful!
