That’s where it all began. I learned that baking requires much patience. I also learned that an artless cake can have a worthwhile effect on most everyone. While earning my place as dessert-maker in my home I discovered the most gratifying reward for my endeavors was the smile which presented itself on people’s faces as I offered them a treat. If our treats cause you to smile then we’ve done our job here at ❤️

As many of you may already know, I come from a rather large family, and our house is often full of friends, family, and maybe a few strangers. My wonderful parents always made sure we were prepared to offer our guests food for their soul, mind, and body. As a young girl I remember helping my mom roll out tortillas or helping my dad flip pancakes on a Saturday morning. As I was trusted with larger tasks I, along with anyone sitting around our dinner table, soon unearthed my true lack of culinary expertise (to say the least). My dishes either lacked flavor or were so salty our guests hardly touched their food. They were either raw in the center or they were burned clear through. Becoming the assigned salad-maker, I quickly learned to despise washing lettuce. I remember one night, a friend of my mom, who was becoming a regular dinner guest, brought over a Betty Crocker’s cake mix. She handed it to me and asked if we could make it for dinner. (She had hit on our single defect: no dessert.) I jumped at the opportunity to make something other than a salad and began making preparations. My mom watched closely as I did my best to impress. Had she not, the pans we kept in the oven would have been ruined sitting unused in a heated oven, or our guests would have choked on an eggshell in the batter which I missed but she pointed out. I had much to learn, but everyone present would have agreed that following the simple instructions on the back of a cake box suited me much better than cooking ever did.
