MARCH WITH PEACE ACTION OF MICHIGAN in the Ferndale Memorial Parade.

Peace Action of Michigan has been marching with the Ferndale Memorial Parade for over 40 years. We have been a constant presence of peace in the community. With the addition of the Michigan Fallen Foot Float, our attendance has been divided between the Foot Float and the Peace Action contingent. Their message is a very powerful one - the human cost of war. The Foot float is made up of people who are remembering our Michigan fallen heroes by providing an active and honorable tribute to each who has died since 2001 in the Iraq or Afghanistan conflict by carrying their picture, date of birth and hometown. It is a very powerful statement.

We would like the community to know that we are still a very active peace group with the goal of ending wars. We want a world of peace. In order to do this, we need your participation. We would love it if you would join us in the message of peace. We ask that you wear either a white or blue shirt or a t- shirt with peace on it or peace buttons. Please do not bring any political signs or wear t-shirts with any message other than peace. We will have some peace signs available with our name to carry behind our banner.

We will assemble on W. Lewiston, East of Livernois ( facing West) at 9:45am on Monday, May 27th.The parade starts at 10am. Please join us!

Please note that for the Veterans For Peace Golden Rule program at the Peace Center, there are a number of events taking place the evening of Wednesday, August 16th that may make parking difficult (and expensive) close to the Peace Center.
One parking option is to use public parking at the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) on Woodward Avenue and take the free Q-Line (https://www.qlinedetroit.com) street cars that travel along Woodward, to the Grand Circus Park Q-Line Station, which is less than a 5-minute walk to the Peace Center. The Q-Line also runs until midnight on week nights. A map of the DIA parking areas (along with street parking areas and Wayne State University parking close to the Q-line) is available at https://dia.org/visit/parking .
In case of Q-Line problems, bus service can be taken from the DIA parking lot using the 053, 4-Woodward, or the 004 bus stops in front of the DIA, runs on Woodward Avenue and can stop at the Grand Circus Park bus stop. Bus fares are $1.50 for adults, 75¢ for students, and 50¢ for seniors and the disabled. Exact fare or passes are accepted. INSUMISIÓN A LAS GUERRAS – Manifiesto a favor de la objeción de conciencia y de la deserción en Rusia y en Ucrania 13/04/2022

From Women in Black - Madrid . . .

Refusal to Do Military Service in All Wars!

We struggle against all injustices that provoke wars and for the elimination of the causes for war.

We insist on the universal right to renounce bearing arms.

In Ukraine, those who refuse to fight end up remaining clandestine.
In Russia, those who demonstrate their protest against the invasion of Ukraine are repressed and jailed.

The European Union denies political asylum to the deserters on both sides, sends weapons to the area and announces an increase in their military budget.

We reclaim a humanity liberated from militarism.

We demand a universal welcome to all people who flee from wars, without discrimination or racism.

We demand that the European Union welcome those who desert from the armies and from recruitment, in accordance with the universal right to conscientious objection.

We support those in Ukraine and Russia who self-organize with peaceful goals, employ means of bloodless struggle, practice civil disobedience and nonviolent defense.

We urge the organization of a European network of support for pacifists and deserters who contravene the war in Ukraine.

We will disobey Spanish and European laws in order to welcome pacifists and deserters from Russia and Ukraine into our houses.

We encourage you to sign the declaration “Refusal to do military service in all wars”.

Women in Black - Who We Are

Women in Black - Detroit began to organize as “Women in Unity Against War” as part of the movement against US-imposed economic sanctions on Iraq in the early 1990s and in 2001 reorganized and changed its name to become identified with a larger group of women marching for peace and against state-sponsored violence. WIB-Detroit is part of a world-wide network of women committed to peace with justice and actively opposed to injustice, war, militarism and other forms of violence. As women experiencing these things in different ways in different regions of the world, we support each other’s movements. An important focus is challenging the militarist policies of our own governments. We are not an organization, but a means of communicating and a formula for action. WIB-Detroit vigils are always held at noon on the second Saturday of the month at different locations in the Detroit area. All are welcome.
