Digital notebook - Bloody Mary

Toyed around with a different brush this weekend (while watching X Files). FUN👌🏻

I don’t know if I like this brush or not. I’ve been gathering inspo for the Rabbit year, but I shoved the bunny aside for a bit to play. I don’t think I’ll do anything with this piece. Don’t think it’ll make the cut for print or sticker.

I’ve started my new book too and the first one is getting queried this year, but I can’t stop fiddling with it🤦🏼‍♀️

‘WOLF MOON’ - ink on paper

If you’ve been following my stories, here’s the end result of my first ever attempt at inking.

Although drawing/graphic art has always been my thing, I’ve never had the guts to work with ink. This weekend, I took the plunge…AND LOVED IT!

This piece is called Wolf Moon, as a nod to the first full moon we had this year.
Imma try some more inking!

First book buy for the new year!😝🙌🏻

1. The Essential Guide to Drawing by Barrington Barber. I’ve become lazy and formed some bad habits in my drawing over the years. Time to revisit the rudiments and this book covers a lot.

2. Block Print for Beginners by Elise Young. I’m in love with printmaking and I’ve wanted to try it for some time now. This is way out of my comfort zone!😬

3. The Master Guide to Drawing Anime: Expressions and Poses by Christopher Hart. Another area of art I’ve wanted to try. For me, any kind of anime and cartooning is scary, even though I’ve been a comic book nerd since primary school and have tried my hand at it a bit. But that was a long time ago and I’m officially a Noob🫠

Q: WHAT ARE Y’ALL READING AT THE MOMENT? Or what have you bought recently? Any recommendations? They don’t have to be art books. ANY BOOKS!!! Because I want all the books! All of them!👹

It’s Monday again😭

Actually, it’s been a rather productive Monday. I spent a bit of time in the studio and then I repotted some plants🥰

Here’s my progress update. I know I’ve been sitting on this piece, but it’s just not finished yet. What do you think of it so far?

Today was a good day. I felt super motivated this morning and thought I’d just work for an hour or so. When I looked at the time again, it was past 12 pm!😱

Time flies when you’re having fun.

This piece has been taking some time to finish. It’s been really frustrating- 2022 has really kicked me in the teeth. Hopefully I can get back to my regular routine.

It’s been a crazy year so far, that’s why I haven’t been on IG a lot. Since Jan, my mom had a stroke/ switched to ecommerce site/ did admin for my shop/ anxiety-depro seesaw/ more admin/ editing/ more anxiety/ even more admin…

But hopefully I am back, although it will probably be gradual. Here’s my progress so far.😬👍🏻 How y’all doing?

I’ve been so busy with admin and shop building (and editing my book), I haven’t had as much time to spend on making art😱 And I so love admin…🤦🏼‍♀️
There’s still a lot of detail to be added to this piece before she’s ready, but I’m looking forward to it. I’ll post another update soon✌🏻

Hello 2022!

After a long break (doing a lot of work behind the scenes), I’m back and ready for the new year. Starting off, my first art vs artist post. Here’s to a creative and awesome new year for all😘

New WIP

I’m not really a floral artist, but sometimes flowers are nice to play with. I started this on a whim and it’s been a fun piece. I’m still slightly obsessed with peonies, but Helebores have attracted my attention. I think this is a Helebore, though I’m not sure.

At work…working. In one of my favourite coats. It’s actually made out of a blanket. This is pretty much my ‘uniform’ during winter. And yes, I get to work in slippers👌🏻
We’re slowly peeling off the winter clobber as it’s already the start of spring over here. It’ll be boiling soon.

So excited - we’re taking a trip down to the Cape (a bit of a working holiday, really. We’re so blessed that we can have a change of scenery every once in a while).

Doing a snek!🐍 Time to put dem crows to rest…for now. But they will return in time, mwuahahaha.

Thought I’d share some progress pics and show you what I’m up to. At the moment, my last art piece is at the printers. They just finished a proof run. I will go have a looksy on Wednesday!🙌🏻 The shop is coming together. There are just so many loose ends to tie up! But I’m hoofing it to open this month! Can’t wait! More info soon💗

Lilac breasted roller

I finished this commissioned piece today and the client loved it - so stoked! Doing commission pieces are always scary for me because there’s not a big margin for error. Always super afraid I’ll make a mistake or something will go wrong.

I had a bad reaction when I got my first vaccine shot, so I lost about 3 days, but I caught up okay.

Now, on to new work!😄🙌🏻

The weekend was crazy! I really gunned it to try and finish everything, but I still have some stuff left.

So as you know, I’m planning to reveal the big piece ‘Contention’ this week. Then it’s off to the printers!🙌🏻 I’ll be posting updates.

I’ve almost completed the body of work! 2 more to go. I initially thought I’d do 5, but I got inspired.

I enjoyed playing with blues and blacks on this one. I’ve been in feather painting mode for such a long time that the apple freaked me out a bit. Then I ended up really enjoying the creative process.

Worked on this during the weekend. Almost done. This is a tiny (A4) piece that is part of a series. Not sure how many I want to include yet. Maybe 5 or 6. It’s also my very first watercolour. Could make a nice postcard.
