HAPPY DAY OF THE SEAFARER!!

The Day of the Seafarer (25 June) was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to adopt the revised STCW Convention. Its stated purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole.

Seafarers spend a great deal of their time on board ships, and this provides many opportunities for them to take pictures of their working environment

is the new hashtag for the 2024 campaign.

To all the seafarers, we are asking you to share a picture of yourself in your working environment with your top tip for safety at sea with the hashtag

Be creative, you can share the equipment you use to keep your workplace safe or any special training you received, and tell us how you work to enhance maritime safety and security, in tandem with the protection of the marine environment. Let us know how you keep up with the pace of technological change and innovation to stay safe onboard.

Today marks an incredibly important day in the world of Maritime. World Maritime Day is a day we celebrate and recognise all of the hardworking men and women who work in the Maritime Industry whether they are shoreside or at sea.

World Maritime Day is a global observance day, created by The United Nations, via the International Maritime Organization. It highlights the maritime industry's contribution towards the world economy, especially in shipping.

"MARPOL at 50 – Our commitment goes on” has been chosen as the IMO World Maritime Theme for 2023. The theme reflects the organization's long history of protecting the environment from the impact of shipping via a robust regulatory framework and emphasizes its ongoing commitment to this important work.

World Maritime Day was first held in 1978 to mark the 20th anniversary of the IMO Convention’s entry into force. Celebrations are held throughout the world to focus attention on the importance of shipping safety, maritime security and the marine environment, and to emphasize a particular aspect of IMO's work.

Thank you to all of you who are working hard in this industry. We wish you a very Happy Maritime Day!
