Despite the gloom, I’ve had an amazing time with my newfound family at Mercado Sagrado, surrounded by beautiful scenery and a wonderfully curated panel of creatives. The sunshine may have been shy, but the spirit of Mercado Sagrado was front and center with the ancestors’ blessings. Being among kindred spirits, healers, and artists offering their gifts was not only uplifting but also the balm my soul needed during this collective awakening. People of the Casbah which is the closest and dearest to my heart because it keeps me connected to my indigenous roots. You guys already know the story: although I’m French, I’m foremost an indigenous Kabyle Amazigh woman from Algiers and this business is my way of sharing my roots and passing along a a part of culture.

Everything I curate is done intentionally. I’m also up against some big rug influencers mostly westerners who are gentrifying my culture without any understanding of the magic and tradition embedded within it; yes they may have the financial resources to run big, but not a connection to the land let along reverence for the millennial artform nor the deep-rooted stories each pattern tells.

People of the Casbah is an invitation to the source it is what sustains me in LA and a creative outlet that is dear to me. I have met most of you either through Facebook Market place and at various Fleas throughout LA, and I will try to carve out some time to attend flea markets this summer again.
