For the first time, the she-wolf looked into his eyes. The pools of blue sparked another feeling of wanting to step closer to her. Since the she-wolf appeared too nervous for him to do that, he fought the urge.
“What is your name?”
The she-wolf hesitated for a moment. Nero wondered if she did not want to give it to him. After a moment, she finally answered, “Danny.”
Nero could smell that it was not the full truth but did not think it would be a good idea to push that as an issue. If she wanted to give half truths right now, at least it was not a full lie.
“I am Nero.”
“Everyone knows who you are, Alpha Nero.”
“Please, no formalities. This is just two wolves trying to get to know one another.”
Danny smiled, and Nero felt a flutter inside of his heart. “Why did you arrive late to the party? Are you not from this pack?”
The she-wolf sat down on the fountain’s edge and then looked back into his eyes. “I had a little mishap with my dress. I had to pretty much get a new one.”
Well that was the truth, so maybe she is not as nervous now.
Nero sat down on the fountain as well but did his best to not get too close. “That sounds like a pretty big mishap.”
“You could say that. Can I ask why you were dancing with every available she-wolf?”
Oh good, she is asking questions now.
“I have not found my mate yet. I was hoping that dancing with the she-wolves would help me find her.”
Her head slightly tilted to the side. “True Mates are found by first sight. Wouldn’t you have already known that the she-wolves here were not your mate?”
Intelligence and not afraid to challenge me.

“Not necessarily. Alpha Aiden has recently found his mate, and he did not know for certain it was her until his curse was broken.”
“Well magic was at fault there. Are you cursed as well?”
The coy smile she wore while asking that question made Nero want to figure out how to cause her to wear it more often. “Not that I am aware of.”
“Is that why you brought me out here? You think magic is at play?”
“No.”
“Then why did you?”
Don’t blow this.
“To have you to myself. You didn’t only catch my attention when you walked into that room.”
Danny nervously looked away. “I doubt that.”
Do not push her. Kane grew anxious with his questioning.
Nero changed his questions. Mostly to ones he found lame to ask, but he did not want to make her look away nervously like she did. He wanted to know everything there was to know about her. Time seemed to fly inside of the comfortable bubble that they created. Nero learned her birthday was yesterday and she shifted for the first time, that she loved to take walks in the woods, and has recently learned that she loved pizza. He learned so much information, yet it did not seem like enough.
One moment, everything seemed like they hit a groove, and they would spend the rest of the night talking until the sun came up. The next, she stood up looking panicked.
“I need to go.”
“What?”
Did I do something wrong?
“I’m sorry. I have to go.”
Danny took off running into the forest. Before he could process that she ran off, Danny disappeared in the trees. He wanted to go after her, but Kane pointed out the one thing that would assist him in finding her.
She did not have a scent.

On the table was an hourglass with red sand that coursed through it. It mostly sat on the bottom part of the glass with a fraction of its remaining on top. As she walked closer, she saw the intricate carvings etched into the wood of the hourglass. There were roses, thorns, and then symbols for which she did not recognize their meaning. Isabelle knew it was from witchcraft because this had to be what Lucy talked about, but she had no idea what they were or what they meant. The tingles came again as she walked around the table to examine it. Just as she was about to touch it, a voice boomed throughout the room. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?! WHO SAID YOU WERE ALLOWED IN HERE?” The Beast’s face was maroon from his rage as he held on to the edges of the door frame. She noticed he was close to shifting from his anger as patches of fur sprouted over his body, and his claws were out and scraped across a small patch of the wall. He did not have a shirt on, and she noticed more of the gashes across his chest and arms. There were more now than there were when he saved her from Garrett.
“I was just exploring until I went shopping with Sophie.”
The Beast stomped across the room to get into her face. “You are not welcome in this room.” His snout began to form instead of his face.
“I apologize if I intruded, but I just walked in. It was so beautiful in here from the roses, and then the hourglass caught my eye.”
“THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE ALLOWED HERE!”
Isabelle did not like him in her face like this when he was angry, yet she felt the need to touch his skin and calm him. With willpower, she was able to contain this thought and did not follow through with the action.
“I will be sure to not come back here.” She lowered her gaze along with her head.
Aiden grabbed her throat to make her look back at him “Do not act submissive to me.”
She growled. “Get your damn paw off my neck. I will not have you in my face like this.”
Her claws came out of her fingertips, and she sunk them into his arm as she grabbed it. He howled in pain as he let go. Isabelle ran for the door, but he grabbed her left arm and spun her. His hand wrapped around her throat again and slammed her against the wall next to the door. She growled at him to back off, but he did not let her go. She made sure to stare directly in his eyes this time. Isabelle was not going to look away, she was an Alpha herself, and she would not be submissive.
She decided to go for another method to free herself from his grasp. She gave into her earlier temptation and touched his chest. She thought if she kept calm as she ran her fingers lightly over his scarred and rough skin, it would start to lessen his anger. His snarling became less intense and turned into a low purr. This time she looked in his eyes and did not break their gaze. She saw they were no longer burning with rage but instead were starting to relax as her heart began to race. He stared back into her eyes as he loosened his grip around her neck. With his other hand, he began to rub his paw through her long hair. The same hand traveled from the length of her hair to her shoulder. When she did not protest, he continued his path down the length of her back. A soft moan escaped through her lips and made her want to lean in closer. She continued to caress his skin, at first from his waist, up his chest to his shoulder and then to his neck. When she began to delicately run her fingers up the side of his face into his hair, she heard him try to contain a moan of his own.
The warmth between them caused her to purr. Aiden leaned in closer, their lips nearly touched. Isabelle closed her eyes and waited for him to close the distance. With her being pinned, she could not lean in herself. Aiden’s hand slowly loosened from her neck until it was not there anymore. Her eyes were still shut, but a draft of cold brushed against her skin. When she opened her eyes, Aiden was at the door. As he breathed heavily and clenched his jaw, she noticed his whole body matched his jawline. Every inch of him was clenched as if he was stopping himself from running back to her.
“Do not come in here again,” he said through his teeth.
He left her there against the wall. Isabelle reached up with her right hand and felt her neck where his hands once were and could still feel his hand wrapped around her throat. She wanted to whine from missing the warmth of his presence and felt more alone than when she first entered the room.
