APOGEE　/ ACCEPT(JP)
A little-known group that deserves more clarity and recognition, especially in this year 2021 when 2 important albums are released, the YES and the FRAGILE which was once a tribute band of the great YES.
An album full of various synths that smells of the sound of the 70's with obvious reminiscences of Wakeman's keyboards, of the complex atmospheres of his illustrious father. Smaller pieces also which show the instrumental quality of HISAO and two big pieces at the end of the album which start with sounds heard, but which we never tire of. Apart from that, the atmosphere leaves the rest of the time on neo between the two decades, vintage on one side and more worked on the other, giving a very successful musical atmosphere.
In short, an album not to be underestimated which can at times do as well as the two groups mentioned above, up to you.　（Allain PP）

APOGEE / ACCEPT
The highest peak of a symphonic rock which explores every musical landscape.

It is a voice that rings alongside the most important of those in symphonic rock, to my ears. Apogee/Accept joins them all in melody, harmony, chorus, and superb performance. Like those one remembers from their youth, the translucent sounds expose us to a multitude of expressions with touching melodies. The sounds on Apogee/Accept allow us to experience extended soundscapes like illusions stretching on to the end of the world. When progressive rock first appeared, it was an experiment in music as "music to progress." It may likewise be said that Apogee/Accept is a modern experiment in rock music drawing together classical, folk, contemporary, and music from around the world. It seeks to involve every musical element and succeeds in integrating them as its original interpretation in progressive rock. The higher it climbs and closer it gets to its own musical apogee, I feel that it becomes "pan-music", which is its own cross-genre inner musical world. The latest album also conveys a jazzy element to realize a sound reminiscent of heavyweights like Yes, especially as one can experience in the first track of the album, "Rose in the sand," which provides us the beat and groove that it hasn't given before.

The originality of Apogee/Accept's sound is a mixture of contradictory aspects; hope and darkness, benevolence and corruption, silence and brutality. Each time I listen, I can't help feeling like I'm falling into a cascade along such a range of diverse auditory and lyrical expressions. The unique nature pulls me back for another listen; this album is a singular chance. On the gentle and clean horizons, the sound reminds us of Yes, Genesis, Camel, and the Moody Blues, while there is an evocation of King Crimson, the Art Bears, and Klaus Schulze on its heavy, dark side. The album Apogee/Aspect will be a single blow of surprise for all symphonic rock fans.

Hisao (the creative mind behind this project) played every instrument, saw to all aspects of programming, and lent his own voice to this entire album except for the snare drum on track 8. The fruits of the musical experiments and disciplines that he's taken in repeatedly are condensed tightly here. "Pan-music" breathes deeply in each of the ten tracks of the album.

Finally, let me talk about the concept of Apogee/Accept album. "Rose in the sand" is an important symbol in its context. It is a symbol of tragedy and, at the same time, a symbol of hope. It's an image so important that it also appears in its jacket design. It alludes to urgent crises of the human spirit many go through nowadays, and also the relief that is explored along the streams of its musical riverscapes. Losses, grief, pain: they may be life itself, but the will to overcome them is a gift to us. The universal theme of all life. How could he succeed in describing such a intense and riveting story in a piece of rock music? The reason is that it is" Pan-music." It's the kind that requires rich insight into the world and the courage to be free from musical styles and categorization. "Pan-music" is the creation beyond sonic boundaries.

As symphonic rock, it reaches the world's highest peak now on the point of its original creative attitude.

　　あらゆる音楽要素を内包したシンフォニック・ロックの最高峰

シンフォニック・ロックで一番大切なのは声だ、と私は思う。次いで、メロディ、コーラス、演奏、ハーモニー。アクセプトには、すべてがある。透明感のある青年期のままの声が多彩な表情を見せて、切々としたメロディを歌う。そこに幅広い音楽要素を取り込みながら、この世の果てまでも幻視させてくれる。
プログレッシヴ・ロックは「前進する音楽」としてロックの実験だったわけだが、アクセプトこそ現代の実験だと言える。クラシック・フォーク・現代音楽などあらゆる音楽分野を取り込んで、それぞれをきちんと再現する。こうした音楽を私は「汎音楽（パン・ミュージック）」と呼ぶ。従来、アクセプトには、ジャズの要素は比較的乏しかったが、今回は敢えてジャズも学んで取り込んだ。
そのエッセンスは、アルバム冒頭の曲で聴くことができる。リズムやビートを強化した結果、私には、この曲がイエス・タイプに聴こえる。そしてラストの曲では、清らかなギターのつまびきから始まり、ドラマチックに盛り上がっていく。
特にアクセプトが独創的なのは、深淵を覗き込むかのような暗黒と、希望のある未来を展望する清澄さが同居しているところだ。静謐と暴虐、邪悪と希望、慈愛と堕落がせめぎ合う。瀑布のように落ちてくる眩暈のするようなこの落差。これは、表現の幅の広いプログレッシヴ・ロックの世界でも唯一無二のものだ。
例えばサウンドとしては、清澄な部分では、イエス、ジェネシス、キャメル、ムーディー・ブルースといった優美な曲を感じさせる。一方で暗黒な部分では、キング・クリムゾン、アート・ベアーズ、さらにはクラウス・シュルツェまでも彷彿させる鬼気迫る曲が現れる。シンフォ・ファンにとっては、驚愕の一撃だ。
これまで実験に実験を繰り返してきたものがぎゅっと凝縮されて、どの曲の中でも「汎音楽」が息づいている。試行錯誤してきたことがみごとに結実しており、まさしくアルバム名どおり「極点」だと言える。しかもそれを8曲目のスネア・ドラムを除いては、すべて1人で演奏しているのだ。
そして並行して、1作ごとに思索が深まった。今作では「砂漠の青い薔薇」を象徴としながら、人類の切迫した危機が語られ、個人の救済が語られる。深刻な人生の課題、痛み、苦悩。そしてその超克。それは、汎音楽を内包したアクセプトだからこそ表現することができるのだ。シンフォニック・ロックとして、今や世界最高峰にまで登りつめた傑作だと言ってよいだろう。　（実重重実）

Nothing but a sadness. One of the beauties in music has gone.

It is with deep sadness that I share that my uncle, Lyle Mays, passed away this morning in Los Angeles surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with a recurring illness. Lyle was a brilliant musician and person, and a genius in every sense of the word. He was my dear uncle, mentor, and friend and words cannot express the depth of my grief.

From his family, thank you for loving him and his music.

At this time, there are no details regarding a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Caltech Fund.

ACCEPT(JP) has released 4 issues. Hisao: multi-musical instrument player, singer, and composer in Shiga. who released the perfectly one-man Symphonic Rock work. It's symphonic, but it reminds us of German-Synth sound, and East European feeling of the transparency, and even psychedelic and heavy rock tastes. All words are written in English. The sound- making has been improved to make it stand out in originality. Many of nice melodies will attract listeners. Degrees: 8 in Dramatics, 9 in Melodies, and 8 in Thrillingness, and 8 in Total.

「滋賀のマルチ楽器奏者兼シンガー兼作曲者、Hisaoによるゲストなしの完全多重録音によるユニットで、Poseidon/Vitalから2作をリリース後、Prime Number レーベルから本作を含めた４枚をリリース。シンフォニック・ロックだが、ジャーマン的なシンセ・サウンドや東欧的な透明感、さらにサイケデリックな感覚、ヘヴィネスまで取り入れた最新型サウンドとなっている。ヴォーカルもすべて英語で世界を意識した（また通用する）サウンドとなっている。録音も良くなってきており、オリジナリティーをよりダイレクトに感じさせる内容となった。はっとするようなメロディー多数。　　ドラマティック度８　メロディアス度９　スリリング度８　総合８」

【NUDE】　アンディー・ラティマー氏がなぜ日本の帰還兵に興味を持ったかについては、インタビューなど読んだことがないのでその経緯は知りません。でも「個と社会」（色々な解釈はできるでしょう）をテーマとした本作はコンセプトアルバムとするに相応しい内容だと思います。「SNOW GOOSE」のようなFANTASY系とは異なり、前世紀期後半に発表された社会的（文学的）なCAMELの何枚かのコンセプト・アルバムなどはプログレという領域に多いことは興味深いことです。ぼくのACCEPT(JP)作品でもMOBIUS(2009)、TAIJI(2012)、 UNDER THE ２３rd(2015)そして今年リリースしたDREAM OF TREE、新しいものほど社会的メッセージが濃いコンセプト・アルバムとなってきています。　音楽作品に政治的な内容は取り込むことへは様々な意見があるところでしょう。単純にI'M NOT ABEなどと歌ってしまうのではなく、僕らが生きるこの世界を考える表現として、ARTがPOLITICSに言及していくことは僕は全く正当なことと考えています。ただし、作品がARTとしてとどまれる要素は「表現方法・芸術性・文学性」の有無だと思います。ぼく自身がそこまで達しているとは思っていませんが、このEMBRACEというアルバムの一曲目も、モチーフとしては戦争孤児（一昨年、当事者が歴史を残すために勇気を持って執筆や講演活動をされました）のことが着想点です。WARとかCHILDRENとかそれを示唆する単語は使っていますが、極力固有名詞は避け、内容を抽象化し、普遍的なテーマを織込むことで、「単なる反社会的な曲」とはしていないつもりです。　　プログレというジャンルはそういうややこしいことを考えている創作を包括できる（あるいはそういう創作家が音楽を作るとプログレになるのか？）フィールドかと考えてきました。

８０年代に入り、エイドリアン・ブリューという鬼才とともにクリムゾンが「ディシプリン」をリリースしましたが、この曲を聴いて「ナニが起きているのか」というのが僕の感想でした。衝撃でした。「ラファシファドシファ」という単純そうなフレーズがある時点から、生き物のように揺れだして、三次元で浮き出してきたからです。

僕の不勉強な話しなだけですが、あの「現象」がアフリカ音楽が由来であり、ミニマル・ミュージック、ライヒ、パット・メセニーなどの一連が繋がったのは近年でした。詳しく知ることができたのはある本のおかげです。
ご存知の方もあるかと思いますが、坂本教授のスコラでアフリカ音楽をテーマにした際にゲストで呼ばれたのが塚田。

現在のクリムゾンではフリップ師匠とジャッコ・J氏の絡みで聞くことのできる「ずれるリズム」を、ロックバンドの中であそこまで高度な形で導入できているのは凄いこと。今、その正体を知ってなおさら今さら思います。

ACCEPT(JP)のいくつもの曲中でも導入しようとしてはいるものの、ナンチャッテでしかく、まだまだ研究したいことはたくさんあります。
この短尺なアンビ系曲ではグロッケン系の音でズラせたディレーを左右に振ったり、３つのミニマルフレーズが絡んでいます。
因みに曲に質感を加えるためにE=BOWを使ったギターが背景に入っており、終わりがけの不可解な音もオクターバーをかけたギター音です。
