Shasta McBride Artist
Shasta McBride is a fine art photographer and writer based in California and Hawaii. Growing up in Hawaii, these were her main influences.
Her work is a study on the natural softness found in the nighttime sky, the ocean, women, water, and flowers.
Flower Dream Portrait by Love the way Shasta uses flowers, layers and colors to portray a dream-like feeling and magical atmosphere.

Having fun doing flower dream portraits. Describing my process: Lately, I’m really enjoying doing what I call flower dream portraits. It’s a series of dream-like images involving multiple exposures with flowers and nature and the subject. Sometimes I use long exposure, or filtering the shot through certain objects to increase the dreamlike quality. I prefer to do the portraits in-camera, rather than in post.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. My love of beauty. I am always looking for it.
2. Beginner’s mind.
3. Persisting in a process as it unfolds. Practicing an idea over and over until you find what you love about it.

Late summer
A few Kauai moments at Preeta’s pool and Auntie Cheryl’s Balinese Shangrila with Preeta and Jamie. I’d love to have more time on Kauai. Being there I saw how my definition of beauty and what I’m always on the lookout for comes from the island herself; her colors, her flora and fauna, her softness, her strength, her loving care, her energy. Her style. I’m so grateful to grow up there and feel most at home when I’m on island. 🌺🦉🌋
Multiple exposure is done in camera rather than in computer afterward. Because I’m still learning a lot, I don’t know exactly what I’ll get. The files are big and take time to load and view each one. The light is also tricky with the lens I’m using, and how light reflects blue pool water and pink flowers…so every image is like a fortune cookie 🥠- will it work?
Light in the Forest.
Playing around with multiple exposure in Fairfax with Rebecca. It’s hard to pull away from multiple exposure…it becomes addicting, as if that’s all you’re looking for when you think of images. Light and color and angles. So much to learn, always.
