I am looking for new spots to host breathwork classes, especially in Lisboa. If you have any favourite places, indoors or outdoors, let me know! I am going to incorporate some of my ambient sound work into upcoming sessions, very excited about this 🎵
I'm over here in the good old US of A 🇺🇸 It's so hot here 🥵and I am guessing it's still very hot in Portugal and Scotland. Everywhere I go here they have air conditioning. I always try to endure the heat for as long as I can before I resort to using AC as it allows time for the body to adapt to the higher tempereatures. Even eating hot food in anticipation of hotter weather can help you be more comfortable in the heat (it's not a myth!). Of course the same applies to the cold, we are very adaptable. When the temperature hits 40º I am always reminded of how Wim ran a marathon in the desert of Namibia in that kind of heat without drinking water 😳 I hope you are all dealing with it as best you can! See you back in Portugal in August for more workshops. I will host some shorter breathwork only sessions so let me know if you are interested or you can sign up to my email list in my bio to stay updated Photo credit: Enham Hof

The horse stance, not the horse dance 🐎🕺This is a movement we use to heat ourselves up after cold exposure in a focused and gradual manner. In Portugal it's often fun to take a cold dip and just feel yourself heat back up naturally in the sun but when you are out in harsher conditions with colder air temperatures this technique is vital. We have the power to regulate our temperature, deal with discomfort and deal with much more than we think we can. This belief and sense of control is transferrable to everyday life. Come learn more at one of my upcoming workshops June 18th .co July 10th
Theory 🎓🧬👩🔬 In a Wim Hof fundamentals workshop we talk a little bit about the history and the science of the method. There is a lof of peer-reviewed science out there already to support the mental and physical health benefits thereof and there is a lot we are still to discover. The most important thing in these sessions however is to get out of your head, out of the patterns of over-thinking and into a your body, a physical experience that transcends thought and can create a more balanced state, resetting the nervous sytem and boosting our energy and mood. Come learn about the power of the breath and cold exposure at one of my upcoming workshops: June 18th .co and July 10th Link in bio

These brave souls at last month. The hands exercise is the hardest part of the day. With a full body ice bath your physiology will come to your rescue with norepinephrine, helping you to cope with the extreme cold and pain, often after a while you become comfortable, perfectly able to deal with the experience. With just the hands we don't have the luxury of that biochemical reaction, just the experience of the cold. It is a challenge to relax in such a situation but it is a skill we can learn and transfer to our everyday lives. We even got some smiles at the end 😁
I am taking part in a retreat this summer (June 24th-26th) with You can check out his profile and message him for more details. Before then I have a Wim Hof fundamentals workshop at this amazing space, not always open to the public: .co on June 18th . DM me if you are interested in either and I'll be posting more details soon.
In the February 2018 issue of NeuroImage, professors Muzik and Diwadkar wrote, “We found compelling evidence of the key components of the autonomous processes of the brain related to mood regulation.”
In plain speak, that’s emotion. Now we’ve found the way to tap into that area and learn to regulate our mood, to regulate our emotional state, whatever you want to call it. It turns out that we are innately capable of dealing with emotion on a conscious level. We are free. X
Cold is a stressor, so if you are able to get into the cold and control your body’s response to it, you will be able to control stress. X
I am writing some of my thoughts on Wim's new TV show Freeze the Fear on the BBC in the blog on my website. One for every episode - check it out ☺️
https://christopher-dickson.com/blogchristopherdicksonwimhofinstructor
The first episode of Wim's new BBC show airs tonight at 21:00 BST. It is on prime time in the UK. It is so bizarre for me to see the method gain this amount of exposure. I first saw Wim in in an obscure documentary online in 2009 and what I was seeing was so unbelievable I could scarcely believe any of it was true or possible and now he is appearing on breakfast television. I'm from Scotland and like so many kids born in the 80s we grew up with TV on most evenings in our house. To me, there is something particularly dark, unsettling and toxic about British mainstream celebrity culture. Why do we let these strangers into our homes night after night like they are our friends? What value do they bring to our lives other than offer us distraction, a respite of sorts with no nourishment, for the brain, body or soul, whatsoever. It is this culture that made me want to escape suburbia as a teenager, I couldn't wait to move to the city and see what was really going on in the world, without the filter of TV executives and producers. I don't think any of this is lost on Wim and his team. Mainstream TV and celebrity culture are as far from what we are trying to promote as could be. In the UK, like many places in the west, people come home exhausted from work, eat bad food and slump into their sofa and watch mind-numbing s**t until they fall asleep. It is the opposite of the message, the message being: re-connecting with our true nature, with others and nature itself. Not something you often hear on TV. I see this type of show as a gamble on Wim's part. I guess the hope is that we are reaching out to the people who you could argue, need a jolt out of their everyday the most and that the show does't just come across as a winter edition of 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!'. I'm going to watch the show and write about it on my website to provide some context for what you'll be seeing, maybe we can even sneak in some science if that's not covered sufficiently well. I'm hoping the show will be a success and it succeeds in waking some individuals from their TV-induced comas. [Clip is from THEY LIVE by John Carpenter]

Can't wait to get back to this beautiful space in Sintra for another WHM workshop ❄️🌬🍃 Sunday April 26th 📝
Tiago and Susana were such a fun presence at the last workshop in Sintra and they helped me out with a technical malfunction, so thank you guys! It takes a bit of bravery to put yourself in a situation with a group of strangers but I always see people leave the workshop with a shared bond and a desire to continue their practise. We are starting to do some online breathwork sessions with former participants and growing the community. If you are interested to be part of it consider signing up for a fundamentals workshop! March 26th and April 24th
Hello! I am hosting a free online breathwork session on Zoom this coming Wednesday morning (March 16th) It will be a light, short session, suitable for beginners and expereienced practicioners alike. You can sign up via the link in my bio Start time: 7:15am (PT/UK) End time: 8:00am 🌬🍃
The horse stance. It can feel silly standing like this but it's an essential tool in dealing with the cold and tapping into that innate power that we all have to withstand the elements, go deep inside and take control of your physiology. It's on of the many tools that has a transferable learning for dealing with the stresses of everyday life. I love this picture from the first workshop we did at . Back on March 26th. More info and tickets in my bio
I always recall listening to a talk by Terence McKenna where he addresses the absurdity of him sitting in front of an audience in an unavoidable hierarchical situation, trying to hand down his experience through psychedelics of how we are all one, all part of a something greater than our individual selves, a collective consciousness and how strange this reality is in contrast to what we are led to believe in the western world. Even more absurdly to try to fit it through the narrow funnel of language. I often feel ridiculous sitting in front of a group trying to impart through words what is really meant to just be experienced. Language can feel like a blunt tool at times and that's why although it's important to communicate some science and theory regarding the benefits of breathwork and cold exposure, it is much better to experience it. That's why in my workshops we focus on the experience and try to bring participants back into their bodies and out of their heads and see where it takes them. We'll be back to this beatiful place in april and bookings are open now via the link in my bio.
We are back at for another Wim Hof Method Fundamentals workshop on March 26th to explore the power of the cold, the breath and a change in mindset. You can do much more than you think you can. Build resilience, boost your immunity, spend a day in nature with some beautiful souls and have some fun. For more info and to book see the link in my bio or send me an email if you have any questions 💬
Is this thing still on?
I’m back in Portugal after my little trip to Spain.
A couple of weeks off this app and it just confirms what I already knew. Having a computer in your pocket and being connected digitally to the whole world at all times inhibits real connection. Connection with the people standing in front of you, with your own mind, your intuition, who you really are. We have replaced our connection to ourselves with constant distraction. Try being bored sometimes, try suffering a little instead of numbing yourself with data. It might take you somewhere and the world might look different on the other side.
If you are interested in exploring this deeper idea of connection with yourself, with others, with nature, I have Wim Hof Method workshops in Portugal in March and April. Wishing you all happiness, strength and health as the spring gets into full swing 🍃🍃🍃
Please consider joining my email list 📝 so you don’t have to come on this app to find out what I’m up to 🙏
