FYI

HEADS UP! Flyers have been found around town from the Political Action Committee (PAC) gathering signatures to force a charter amendment to allow up to 12 new electronic billboards in Round Rock. We want you to know that the City of Round Rock HAS NOT approved the use of our logo for this flyer.

The City of Round Rock has clarified several times that this messaging is NOT coming from the City, and there has been no desire from City Council to amend the City’s ordinance that does not allow new billboards.

RECEIVED THIS?! Residents have reported receiving mail and in-person visits from canvassers petitioning for an amendment to the City of Round Rock's Charter that would introduce 12 new electronic billboards along IH-35 and SH-45 (these signs are not currently permitted by the City's sign code). The communication is being disseminated by a political action committee (PAC) named "Keep Round Rock Safe."

Please note:

➡️ While canvassing differs from soliciting and doesn't require an ID card, canvassers must respect "no soliciting" signs on private property.

➡️ These canvassers are not canvassing on behalf of the City of Round Rock.

We did NOT make your hotline bling! 📱 🚫

We’ve received some questions about whether we are behind a survey and voice messages related to digital signage and public safety. The City of Round Rock does not have any affiliation with these calls or texts. When we administer surveys, we will clearly identify that it is official correspondence from the City.

On June 19, 1865, about two months after the Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox, Va., Gordon Granger, a Union general, arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform enslaved African Americans of their freedom and that the Civil War had ended. General Granger’s announcement put into effect the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been issued nearly two and a half years earlier, on Jan. 1, 1863, by President Abraham Lincoln.
