International Day of The Girl Child is observed every year on the 11th October.

It's aim among other things is to raise awareness and educate people on the rights of girls and women globally as well as to celebrate their achievements.

This year's theme is “Digital Generation. Our generation.”
The theme aims to raise awareness among the global community to understand the disadvantages that girls face in this digital age.

📌Highlights of today’s guest speaker/lecturer

Walter S. Kasempa , the Lion of Africa is a 25 year old award winning public Speaker with EAZ and award winning governance expert with YDZ. He is also a holder of a B.A degree in Development Studies with Sociology from the University of Zambia, has a Certificate in transformative leadership and is a certified trainer of trainers in leadership and civic engagement with USAID.

In His advocacy, He is the President and founder of Youth Unite Zambia, a Youth led governance NGO with a vision of raising a generation of youths for the social, economic and political transformation of Zambia.

He is also the founder of a startup called Lions Pride Leadership which offers coaching on leadership and public speaking as well as T-shirt printing with an youth and African theme.

Walter strongly believes in systemic change as the ultimate approach in which societal change and national development can be sustainable. He is inspired by seeing young people making impactful change and has committed himself to help build capacity in young people so that they can be drivers of effective and impactful change.

In our bid to raise awareness around Period Poverty and support Mental Health Awareness and Wellbeing, Her_Period_Matters has partnered with Happyish, Markford's Collection, and You-Nik Children's Initiative for yet another Sanitary Drive.

All proceeds will be donated to the Women based at Chainama Hospital, in Lusaka Zambia.

For financial donations you can make your contribution to 0972990009 via airtel money, you can also use the mentioned number to arrange for pickups of sanitary products, hygiene products, clothes, or any other form of donation.

Our drop-off location is Markford's Collection at Lewanika Mall and East Park Mall.

📌Highlights about the mentor

Kanshanda Mulenga is a Primary teacher , he did his Diploma course in Primary teaching at Mansa College of Education (MACE) .

He has passion for sports(football),counseling and public speaking.
He is also a member Of Children Development and Education Foundation (CDEF) and is part of the Social media team under CDEF.

What motivated him to join CDEF was the fact that the despite it being an organization that is centered on promoting children’s education and rights, the organization is also focused on programs that help young people give back to the community in a positive way and saw that has an opportunity to develop the lives of others and himself.

He is thrilled and ready to help other young people give back to their communities.

Dr. Nomalanga Moyo is a Zambian Junior Medical Doctor enthusiastic about improving the health System of our country.
With a Background of Being A Debate Vice Chairperson and JETS president in High School she has a Heart for public motivational Speaking and Sciences.

As a Faweza Alumni by G12 she was one of two who represented Zambia in the Youth advocacy training workshop in Nairobi, Kenya Where she was trained as a Girl child education Advocate.

She Currently is the Executive Secretary of USIZO a Non governmental organization centered on advocating for A better Zambia through financial literacy, improvement of Health, human rights and a green Zambia.

Similarly she holds the position of professional Health expert in the NGO called Maluba Foundation which is focused on implementing Mental Health policies in Zambia.

Retiana Tiyamike Phiri is a Biomedical Engineering student at Evelyn Hone College. She is an innovator and passionate about Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

She is a peer educator for Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and has volunteered at some health centers in the rural parts of Southern Province of Zambia.

Introducing the coach for mentors under Menstrual Health Hygiene Management for Educators.

📌Highlights about the coach

Namutula Sindila, a gender and social activist; is theExecutive Director for Vision Zambia Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organization focused on fighting socialinjustices, inequality and building the voice of the poor and marginalized.

Since 2018, she has been advocating for girlchild education, as a way of enhancing sustainable women empowerment and reducing inequalities thatunderprivileged women and girls are subjected to. She has been doing this through provision of sanitary pads in Kitwe, Mushindamo, Solwezi, Mansa and Lusaka. Since inception of the organization in 2019, she has led her team in mobilizing and distributing over 50,000 disposable sanitary pads as well as trained 230 girls in making reusable pads, in their catchment areas. She has also lobbied government tirelessly to make sanitary pads more accessible as they have had a bearing on high illiteracy and poverty. She has been instrumentalin raising awareness about the effects of early marriages and teenage pregnancies.

Namutula is passionate about building the girl child’s capacity as a way of fighting poverty and improving overall socioeconomic status of families and grassroot communities.
Namutula is a holder of a Bachelor and Master of Arts in Development Studies, both, obtained from Cavendish University Zambia as well as a Certificate in Psychosocial Counseling. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Gender studies at the University of Zambia.

A virtual training program on understanding what Menstrual Health Hygiene Management is, how lack of proper Menstrual health hygiene practices can affect you and others and what can be done to address it.

•Must be passionate about Menstrual health hygiene and children education and development
•Ready to commit to 3 months intensive online training and mentorship
•Willing to work in a team and host different community outreach programs

While Menstrual Hygiene Day is on 28th May, Her Period Matters continues to work all year round to contribute to making Menstruation a normal fact of life by 2030. 

There's a need to end the stigma and cancel the taboos surrounding menstruation.

We hold Period Positivity so deeply that as we raise awareness to End Period Poverty our objective is to educate, inform society on the challenges of menstruation, and provide access to decent period sanitation among many more. 

Let's End Period Poverty Together, we are not ashamed to Bleed RED
