Old school garden trick, but still works well. Keep your tools sharpe, clean, and rust proof! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘‡

What You Need:
- A 5-gallon bucket
- 5 gallons of sand
- ยพ quart of motor oil

How To Use The Sand And Oil Method:
- Fill your bucket up with sand and pour motor oil on top.
- Use a hand trowel or small tool to mix the sand and oil.
- Continuously plunge your dirty tool in and out until clean.
- Tap your tool against the bucket and brush it off to remove leftover sand.

How It Works:
The coarse sand scrapes away at dirt particles on the tool with the added bonus of sharpening the edges. The sand can then be wiped off much more easily than stuck-on soil. While the sand cleans and sharpens, the oil protects the metal, preventing rusting.

Your bucket of sand and oil isn't only good for a single use. It can clean tools over and over again to keep them in pristine condition.

You may have heard of planting tomatoes on their side. It may sound like a weird thing to do, but here's why it works so well:

Tomato stems are full of parenchyma cells. These non-descript cells are located just below the epidermal layer. One of the coolest things parenchyma cells do is turn into roots, known as adventitious roots

By burying the plant sideways or very deeply in your garden, youโ€™re putting more of the stem underground from the start to enable lots of adventitious root growth. This means your tomato plant now has a much more complex root system, making it easier to take up the water and nutrients needed to make bushel after bushel of tomatoes.

So get to planting your tomatoes sideways! Happy Gardening!

Well, what a fantastic day! Congratulations to all the trophy winners and prize winners and a big thank you to all who entered - you make this a success. There were lots of new entrants competing with familiar faces this year providing a wonderful display of entries. A big thank you also goes to the judges who give up their time and impart their expertise - most appreciated! Finally, thank you to the committee members and array of helpers who set up, run and clear away the show. Here are some of the trophy winners from yesterday.
