MOST ARTISTS TODAY ARE HUNTER GATHERS.
Problem is what if there are no animals around? Or the fruits and veggies aren't in season? Or if somebody else got there first?

Hunter-gatherer artists are always on the never-ending hunt for fans or out gathering fans.

"But farmer artists— they're different.

"Farmers plant seeds. Nurture them. Water them. Get rid of the weeds. They grow their crop.

Musician farmers grow their crop of fans.

And that's how— through a variety of all natural and organic, high-tech and high-touch approaches— we help musicians like you grow a thriving, ever-growing, bumper crop of Fans and SuperFans.

An Artist’s Open Letter to Spotify’s CEO (Daniel Ek) 13/10/2022

HEADS and HEARTS UP! Read this. It's Important! Really.
Will Carpenter and NML founder Paul K. Saunders are good friends. Will just posted this open letter to Daniel Ek, the founder of Spotify and Paul is urging you to make the time to read it.

Paul wrote, "IT'S TIME indie artists stopped getting mistreated while the major artists are sucked up too. What's going on with Spotify is between unfair and flat-out fu*ked up. Surely IT'S TIIME for a level playing field a where the music and the people who create it are nurtured, believed in, supported and compensated properly. A place where creative artists are the center not the outliers. After all, without them there's no Spotify.

HAVE YOU WATCHED THIS...?
Sorry to be pushy, but if you're a singer-songwriter— or know and love one, or two— this is a must see.

[from the description] "Spotlighting Grammy award-winning artists Garth Brooks, Emmylou Harris and Jason Isbell – as well as some the most influential songs of the past twenty-five years – THE LAST SONGWRITER asks, “Who will write the soundtrack of our lives as songwriters are leaving the profession after earning a fraction of a penny for streams on services such as Pandora or Spotify.”

As we keep saying, IT'S TIME... Time To Transform the Music Business As Usual. That's our mission & purpose with New Music Lives.

IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN, and ALWAYS WILL BE ABOUT the MUSIC. Being the best creative artist you can be— and being heard. By more and more (and more) people who like and love you.

What's changed is the business of making and selling your music. In a fun word, 'Moneytizing' your music. Those are those 'right things' Paul spoke about. And those things are what New Music Lives is all about helping you do.

20 Unforgettable Lyrics From '70s Music 10/10/2022

YEAH, YEAH... Some of us are olde enough to remember. You may have heard the classic advertising line, "A diamond lasts forever." Almost true. Just not as long as great lyrics do...

20 Unforgettable Lyrics From '70s Music Even if you were born long after 1979, chances are, the iconic lines of the era are familiar.

DO YOU HAVE A MUSIC LAWYER?
As soon as you start to make a living in the music industry you will need advice and help with unfamiliar issues. Contracts and litigation can be a minefield, and a music lawyer can review and check terms and conditions of record deals, publishing and copyrights. Professional advice is very valuable. An experienced media lawyer can steer you through any pitfalls and deliver practical advice. Before signing anything, consulting a lawyer is a must and can prevent ongoing problems. A good music lawyer will have useful contacts in the business and will guide and protect your interests.

AND if you’re no where near needing a lawyer, yet, grab a phone, give one a call anyway. Tell them you’re a musician on your way up and you want to know the best lawyer to help you when you’re ready. That should be enough to start a worthwhile conversation.

Two things: Make sure they’re an attorney who specializes in MUSIC and MUSICIANS. And, the SheHulk is probably not who you want.

The MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT of MUSIC MARKETING
With the ever-expanding digital age, the music industry has undergone some serious changes in the way music is marketed and sold. It's no secret that musicians must now take their music marketing into their own hands in order to make a living in music.

There are numerous ways for musicians to market their music. Some proven methods include creating a website and social media pages, distributing CDs or music downloads, submitting music to blogs and music review websites, and playing live shows in a variety of venues.

One of the most important aspects of music marketing is creating a strong online presence. This means having a well-designed website and using social media to reach out to fans and followers. It's important to post regular updates and engage with fans by responding to comments and messages.

Another important aspect of music marketing is distributing CDs or music downloads. This can be done by selling CDs at live shows, through online music stores, or by distributing downloads directly from the musician's website.

It's also important to get as much publicity as possible for the musician and their music. This can be done by submitting music to blogs and music review websites, by sending press releases to music reporters, and by organizing live shows.

Ultimately, the most important aspect of music marketing is to keep promoting your music and yourself. Reach out to new fans and followers is the key. The more effort that is put into marketing the music, the more successful the musician will be.

Why Independent Musicians Are Becoming The Future Of The Music Industry 05/10/2022

MORE MUSICIANS ARE MAKING THEIR WAY in the business without the aid of a label, but independent musicians are actually the fastest-growing segment of the global recorded music business. A new report from MIDiA Research fielded in partnership with digital music distributor Amuse says independent artists generated more than $643 million in 2018, a 35% jump from the year before.

In January of 2020, indie labels and self-releasing artists saw their revenues grow by 27%, compared to an overall market growth of 7%. The trend has only increased— in velocity and scale— since then.
