The year 2020 was a tough year for everyone. The tragic death of a sport icon and idol and global pandemic, most would think that it couldn't get worse. I turned 30 years old that year and a couple months later I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Most people don't know this because I wanted it that way. I didn't want the attention or the sympathy. All I wanted was to do, what i needed to do to get my life back and I did...I'm back.

Even with a cancer diagnosis, I was very fortunate in many ways. During one of my 8 hour days in chemotherapy, I was told my health insurance would not cover my treatments. At first I was I very scared, but my amazing doctor said not to worry we were going to see this through, "We will figure it out when you get better". Deep down, I knew it would work out somehow... it always does. I knew I has financially ok and because I am in the financial services industry I put myself in a good position with specific policies if this day were to ever come.

Thirty six, 8 hour days of chemo, a DVT blood clot and being hospitalized gave me a lot of time to think and wonder, what do people do if they are in this position and aren't prepared or don't make a decent income.. what happens?

I learned that over 60% of people diagnosed with cancer can't pay for the medical treatments needed to save their lives. That didn't sit right with me.

I finished my last treatment almost two years ago, on November 2nd. Four months later, my Father got very sick and suddenly passed away. I was absolutely devastated and in disbelief. My Dad did the right thing while he was alive and gave my sister and I the opportunity to get through life with out him.

With my second chance at life, I'm choosing to make the most of every waking minute I have and with a burning desire to make the best out of the circumstances that happened for me.

The Knox Twice Foundation is devoted to helping other cancer patients pay for treatments not covered by their health insurance.
If I help one person or a million people, this will be a success.
