📣Only 10 more days to sign up!

The next Shine Speaker Foundations program kicks off Tuesday, February 1.

If you're wanting to:

🟡 improve your communication skills
🟡 build your self-confidence and
🟡 learn how to create a from-scratch presentation alongside a supportive community

Then this program is for you.

And don't be fooled by the name - Foundations isn't just for brand new speakers. We had several seasoned speakers join the Fall 2021 cohort and loved it. One told us it was "the missing piece" in her development as a speaker (and no, we were definitely NOT crying 😭).

Here's a snapshot of what you'll experience as a student in this cohort-based program:

➡️ 8 weeks of deep, transformational learning
➡️ Closed, intimate cohort with a private Slack channel
➡️ 90-minute Weekly Workshops combining theory with hands-on activities, breakout sessions + plenty of time to work on your talks
➡️ 2 x 1-on-1 sessions with a Shine Mentor
➡️ Lifetime access to the Shine Speaker Course
➡️ The opportunity to present your final talk in front of your peers

And because we believe education should be accessible to ALL, Shine Speaker Foundations is offered on a sliding scale, with prices starting at $550.

Learn more about the program rigghhht here ➡️ shinebootcamp.com/foundations (link is also in bio).

Let's talk speaker riders.

What are they? Who needs one? And what to include if you're making your own?

First of all, What *is* a speaker rider?

A speaker rider is a document or record of your speaking terms - that is, what you require in order to say "Yes" to a speaking engagement.

It sets clear expectations about things like speaking fees, airfare and hotel logistics, intellectual property rights, etc. It's your list of must-haves (and maybe even your list of hell-nos).

A speaker rider can also be a powerful vehicle for change at events and conferences.

It can include requirements around lineup diversity, accessibility, equal pay among speakers, etc. (E.g., Many riders are explicit about the % of speakers who must *not* be white cis-men.)

This is a meaningful way speakers - especially well-known speakers with influence - can leverage their privilege and authority to push for social change in their industries.

Who needs a speaker rider?

ALL SPEAKERS! Yep, no matter how “green” - you can benefit from creating a speaker rider.

As a new speaker you may not feel comfortable making "demands," but defining your non-negotiables can help you narrow your focus on where to pitch.

Eventually, when you've gotten some experience under your belt, you can start sharing your rider with events and conference organizers.

🧐What to include on your own speaker rider?

This part's up to you, but here's a good starting point:

🔴 Speaker fees + compensation (e.g. free tickets)
🔴 Reimbursement of travel + airfare
🔴 Intellectual property + sharing rights
🔴 Representation specs
🔴 Accessibility (physical + remote events)

We suggest getting inspired by some examples - check out Tatiana Mac, Kat Cosgrove, Cassidy Williams, Eric Eggert, Remy Sharp, and The Pudding/OpenNews.

Not sure you know this, but we created an all-new 8-week speaking program last fall.

It's a live, cohort-based program where women gain the skills + confidence to create and deliver powerful presentations. We tested it out with a cohort of 100 students!

Naturally, we sent a survey to everyone after. "How was it?" we wanted to know.

Instead of telling you about the program, we thought we'd let our most recent alums do the talking. So we copy-pasted their raw, candid feedback straight from that survey.

When we asked folks, "What aspects of the program did you really enjoy?" they answered with things like:

💛I loved that we could interact with the coaches and other colleagues weekly. It wasn't just another self-paced course, but we received real feedback and support.
💛The facilitators, the content and the community.
💛I really enjoyed the community and how willing the participants were to help me improve my talk.
💛I loved the connections that I was able to make.
💛The materials were very thorough! Watching the accompanying course before and after the workshop reinforces the lessons. I was able to pause a module, at any time or place I needed, for a greater dive. I love that these materials are available forever!
💛 The communication cadence was honestly best practice and should be written down in a museum somewhere!
💛 I really enjoyed how interactive it was. It was nice to attend the live session that included prompts and breakout sessions.

We have enough answers for 10 more Instagram posts. But we'll stop there and hope that gives you a good glimpse into Shine.

If you're interested in levelling up your confidence and communication skills in 2022. And want to do it with a rad community of women, look no further than the Shine Speaker Foundations Program 😊 (link in bio)

I really dislike when marketing feels pushy. I mean, who does?

Thing is I *know* we have an awesome program. I know because over 300+ people have gone through Shine and told us. But not only that, Shine alums have secured speaking gigs. We have a Slack channel called and when it lights up (which is often does), it makes my day. Because that mean our program delivers what it says it does: improves your confidence and communication.

My philosophy when it comes to marketing is this: the best "marketing" doesn't feel like marketing.

And so when Ale, Amy and I thought about our upcoming Shine Foundations program, we thought ... well let's interview some of the incredible women who just went through the program. And invite whoever is interested, wants to learn more.

The truth: Our alums can tell you about Shine Bootcamp better than we can.

THIS WEEK we are doing 20-minute interviews with 4 alums on Instagram:

🌟 Nma Emeh 🌟 — Next Thursday, Jan 20th at 12:00 noon EST
🌟Glenda Lezeau 🌟 — Next Thursday, Jan 20th at 6:00 pm EST
🌟Julia o Barnes 🌟 — Tuesday, Jan 25 at 6:00 pm EST
🌟Thuy Doan — 🌟 Thursday, Jan 27 at 6:00 pm EST

The two things these women all have in common? 1. They are awesome. 2. They are recent Shine Speaker Foundation's Graduates.

Soooo…. If you're thinking about doing Shine Bootcamp's Speaker Foundations kicking off Feb 1st (deadline to register is January 31st), but aren't really sure, come to one of these conversations.

See you there ✌🏻💛

Ale here 👋🏼 . I'm one of three Shine Co-creators and a passionate advocate for self-acceptance and self-compassion (find me ).

I first heard of exposure therapy when I went to treatment.

In March of 2019, I checked myself into an eating disorder center () and was there for two months doing therapy every day, healing my relationship with food and my body.

Once a week we would do an exposure. We would pick one thing that we wanted to expose ourselves to, break it down into little steps, and accomplish it! That's when I realized that confidence comes with exposure - the more we do something the more confident we will become.

At Shine, we integrate principles of exposure therapy into our Foundations program. Each week you are exposed to a new challenge. From mini-presentations to sharing your work-in-progress titles and descriptions in Slack and then finally building up to the big day where you present your talk in front your your peers.

Join our 10-day Exposure Challenge ( ) starting next Monday. Download our Notion template (link in bio) to help you stay on track.
