Lovely to be out this weekend campaigning with Bromley and Chislehurst Conservatives delivering crime surveys and anti-ULEZ expansion petitions and Dagenham and Rainham Conservatives supporting Heath ward by election candidate Joe Lynch.

Lots of opposition to the ULEZ expansion.

ULEZ is a Labour tax on working people and businesses during a cost of living crisis.

I’m Samia and welcome to my page. I am a committed Conservative Party campaigner, activist and member. You can keep up to date with my ongoing work and activities here.

About me:

I was born in Edgware in North London and grew up in Newham and Tower Hamlets after my family moved to East London. My father was a refugee who fled the civil war in Somalia in the early 1990s.

I started my professional career in the education charity sector at IntoUniversity supporting children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds aged 7-18 to aspire and achieve, through subject-focused and career workshops, trips and one-to-one academic support.

I then worked as a Parliamentary Assistant to Gillian Keegan MP, for over two years, before moving into my current role as a public policy and public affairs advisor for a communications agency advising businesses on financial services, energy and tech policy.

Education, health, transport, policing and criminal justice are vital areas of interest to me.

I currently serve as a School Governor for a secondary school in East London, which had one of the country's worst GCSE results, turning into one of the best-performing schools for GCSEs by 2022.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or would like support with an issue.

Good to be out last weekend campaigning with Barnet Conservatives and Finchley Conservatives for Peter Zinkin ahead of the Golders Green by-election taking place today! Great responses on the doorstep recognising the hard work by local Conservative councillors and Mike Freer MP.

Anything that stops children getting an education is a tragedy 15/01/2023

Great article by Gillian Keegan on why schools must stay open for pupils in the face of strike action from teachers unions. Glad that guidance will be published to ensure that the most vulnerable pupils are continued to be supported.

Anything that stops children getting an education is a tragedy With the threat of teachers strike action looming, the stakes have never been higher as we all work to catch up from the pandemic

School clamps down on truants by sending staff out to knock on doors 20/12/2022

Proud of the work of Cumberland Community School.

Our teachers and staff always go the extra mile and work hard to transform the school over recent years. The school is now one of the best schools in the country for GCSE results.

High attendance is critical to achievement.

School clamps down on truants by sending staff out to knock on doors Staff at Cumberland Community School in east London make daily home visits to every child who does not have a legitimate reason for staying away from school.

Since London Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan closed the Isle of Dogs Police Station, Islanders have felt less safe in our community.

Labour Councillors and the Labour Mayor John Biggs have done nothing to stop this.

If elected, Canary Wharf Conservatives will work to open a police hub on the Island, so our local police officers stay local, and can better support our community.

Time and time again, the Island has been let down by Labour. Canary Wharf Conservatives have a plan to support our community and ensure it thrives. If you want change, you need to vote for it. See our plan below and in CANARY WHARF.

Through the Government’s Household Support Fund, Tower Hamlets has received the highest allocation of funding in London, nearly £3 million to support families including on the Island.

We pay £4k for 'luxury' London flats - but they are mouldy and smell awful 24/04/2022

LANDMARK PINNACLE:

This has now been picked up by the national press, this is a very unfortunate theme across the Island. People should not have to put up with this at all. I am concerned by how quickly some buildings are constructed and then opened, we need more robust standards.

The Labour Council have issued zero fines for nox abuse on the Isle of Dogs. What is the point of creating a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) if the Labour Council fail to use these additional powers?

If elected as a Councillor for the Canary Wharf ward, I’ll work to ensure the PSPO is enforced in our community to tackle this nuisance.

03/03/2022

This is a common sight across the Canary Wharf ward. This bollard, like many others, have been knocked down countless times.

Labour Tower Hamlets Council have done nothing to tackle the dangerous parking and traffic chaos they’ve caused across the borough.

This is what happens when you continue to build high rise developments that are supposed to be car free but that isn’t the reality.

We need to invest more in transport, considering how much development has taken place on the Island, we don’t have the buses, trains and road space to support this.

BARKANTINE QUARTERDECK PLAYGROUND AND OUTSTANDING SECURITY DOORS REPAIRS:

I have noticed the swings have sadly been removed from the playground on the Quarterdeck, I am working with One Housing to get them replaced. This playground is loved and enjoyed by many families so this is a shame to see.

Furthermore, I have also noticed security doors across the Barkantine have been broken, I have raised this with One Housing who will be fixing them soon. I understand youths have been going into the buildings which has resulted in anti social behaviour.

Please do get in touch if you would like anything to be raised and sorted. We’re here to help!

Another planning application by Ballymore on Cuba/Manilla Street is expected to be approved by Tower Hamlets Council.

Residents suffer the effects of constant overdevelopment by Tower Hamlets Labour resulting in low water pressure, loss of light and more demands on schools, GPs and transport.

Tower Hamlets Labour keep approving huge developments but have no plan to build infrastructure on the Isle of Dogs.

Best,

Samia Hersi and Frances Germain-Powell

Good to see Tiller Leisure Centre has reopened after being closed for almost 2 years!

Well done to everyone who worked to reopen and save the only leisure centre on the Isle of Dogs.

Super happy to have my COVID-19 booster vaccine!

It’s been 6 months since I had my second dose and I’m a unpaid carer.

I’ve been volunteering at the Barkantine Practice supporting the booster vaccine rollout, and it’s incredible seeing how eager people are to get jabbed!

Please do book and attend your COVID-19 booster vaccine appointment to protect yourself, your loved ones and the community 💙

Police officer numbers in London at highest level since 2010 17/11/2021

Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan is closing the Isle of Dogs Police Station despite violent crime rising locally.

Mayor John Biggs and Tower Hamlets Labour Councillors have done nothing to stop this.

Tower Hamlets Metropolitan Police officers will leave the building for good at the end of the month.

The Isle of Dogs deserves better.

ISLE OF DOGS POLICE STATION UPDATE:

In a meeting last night, Tower Hamlets Police confirmed the selling of the police station by Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan, and that the Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams will be moved to Bow Police Station instead of Bethnal Green.

We were concerned to hear, just like many would be, that the closure would affect the visibility of police officers on the Island.

The Isle of Dogs Police station served as a base for SNT officers to travel to and from when working.

We are glad that Tower Hamlets Police are looking at other ways to remedy this however, with the support of Canary Wharf Security Team and other relevant groups.

03/11/2021

Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan is closing the Isle of Dogs Police Station at the end of this month, leaving the Island’s 60,000 residents without a Police Station.

Isle of Dogs Labour Councillors and Mayor John Biggs have endorsed this appalling decision by Khan by not doing anything to oppose or stop it.

I reported the first picture to the Labour-run Tower Hamlets Council about the amount of rubbish on the Barkantine Estate.

It appears they came by and took the bags and boxes, but left all this mess behind in the second picture, including syringes and needles.

I decided to give it a proper clean up, since our Council does not want to do its job properly.

The Labour Council can’t be trusted with our waste and street cleaning services anymore. I am calling for a new contract to raise standards and solve this issue.

Photos from Samia Hersi's post 23/10/2021

Today I was out listening and speaking to residents on the Barkantine Estate. People are tired of seeing rubbish on our streets and excuses from the Labour Mayor and Councillors. Since rubbish and recycling services have been brought under their control standards have fallen well below acceptable. Where is the accountability?

LIFT SURFING AT LANDMARK PINNACLE:

I have come across this video on YouTube showing how people have entered the building and are now standing on top of lifts and accessing the roof. This is incredibly dangerous and a growing problem across the Isle of Dogs.

My advice would be, if you are comfortable doing this, of course, is to challenge people who tailgate behind you or if you see suspicious behaviour. Notify the police if you see this happen and let the concierges know about this growing problem.

The people that do this look young and at the end of the day they have decided to behave recklessly, however, this shouldn’t be at the expense of people/residents peace and safety and that’s exactly what this is.
