High on God
Every young man wants to be a hero!
Over the past few months, I've been reminded about things close to my heart.
In a little over a month, it'll be five years since my eldest son Karl passed away at the age of twenty-seven. A tragedy, most tragic!
I usually do a video or write-up closer to the time, but this year, I'm sending this out a little earlier as needs must; the good lord surely does work in mysterious ways, and I'm not one for arguing with the head man!
There's been a forty per cent increase in drug-related deaths in Northern Ireland in the past decade. Take a skip across the pond to Scotland, and you'll find yourself in the drug death capital of Europe.
The facts about my son's life and death using drugs are very similar to that of a lot of young people out there today. Karl was a good boy who got sucked into an evil trap. That trap is set to steer young people of their true and right course. Rather than working hard and building yourself up to be strong and resilient against the things this sometimes cruel and hard world can and will throw at you. The world of evil drugs tricks the mind into thinking that you only have to exist to feel good and proud of yourself. But then they wear off, bringing you crashing down to reality and below because you've been caught trying to cheat by your conscience. Now to choose between growing up, making a stand, truly bettering yourself and being your hero (after all, how can you be a hero for anyone if you can't save yourself) or going on taking more drugs and more drugs until you waste away and die, never living the good life and serving your purpose on this Earth. My son took Xanax and lost control of his awareness. He then kept on going with other drugs until his lungs gave in and filled with blood; he collapsed and was dead within two minutes. Does that sound like a good time or a respectful way to end your life?
My boy Karl, like a lot of young men, could have made something out of their lives but got caught in the evil world of drugs and bad company.
The facts are there to be observed and learn from. Look at long-term drug users. Is there anything you see that says I want to be like them?
It's been scientifically proven that regular drug use between the ages of sixteen and twenty-seven can have serious negative effects on brain development, causing personality disorders and other psychological damage. Again, does any of the above sound like a good time to you?
I remember standing in front of Karl; his mind was tormented because of the substances he had taken. I told him, " Son, I know you want to be a hero, but this is not the way". He collapsed into my arms, sobbing, saying, " Dad, I want to be a hero".
Every young man wants to be and can be a hero, a man amongst men, but you've got to make the right choices and surround yourself with people who truly love and care for you; then, you can build strength and go on to help others who need it most.
Strength, honour and all glory to God!

The Road to Good Man!
Another Glorious morning.
From April 2022, I spent around 20-30 hours a week, most weeks, in the company of Gabriel Magee. From day one on the first job, we Connected, Which is a very rare thing indeed. It's not an easy thing to find someone to work with who understands that being a self-employed builder is a tough job, but over the first few weeks, Gabriel proved himself to be very much up to the tasks and challenges. More than that, He loved to work, always keen and happy. Gabriel was certainly not afraid to get his hands dirty or his trousers, jumper, or face. One day, we were on our way home from a job in Portaferry when I turned to Gabriel and said," I'm sorry to tell you, mate, but I'll have to start docking your wages. Gabriel asked, "Whys is that, then"? I looked him up and down and replied, "Because you're going home every night wearing two bags of cement".
We got to know each other over the days, weeks and months of working together. Gabriel shared his past with me, and I shared mine with him. Most of us of a certain age in a certain stage of life learn to reflect on our history and use that experience to better ourselves. Therefore, we learn to live more contentedly because we appreciate a simpler life through observing and absorbing the goodness that's been there all along.
Having suffered struggle and loss, Gabriel went through a period of soul-searching as I have. Our paths crossed, and I feel honoured to have met and spent time with Gabriel Magee. Never a wasted minute.
I'll miss many things about Gabriel, his company, our conversation and the craic. But one thing that will always stay lodged in my mind is Gabriel opening the passenger door on a beautiful sunny morning and observing, "Another glorious morning, Michael!"
Gabriel passed away in my arms back in January this year; that's when I wrote the above, but I left something out.
I prayed and prayed for Gabriel as the paramedics worked hard to try and bring him back, but deep down, I knew he was gone. I prayed for Gabriel Magee on the way to his partner's house and home. It was a stormy night, and the sky was filled with clouds, but as I looked up after lifting some work clothes from the car, the clouds parted slightly, and there, staring down at me, was a bright pulsating star, fixed in the heavens like a beacon. I felt compelled to speak, so I said, "Is that you, Gabriel"? In a split second, the star flashed brighter and then disappeared behind a dense cloud.
People make things what they will, but in my heart, I know that night, Gabriel sent me a sign to let me know he was in a glorious place.
For years, I've been searching to find my true purpose.
This year, I have had three very powerful spiritual encounters, which, after forty years, have directed me back through church doors and into the congregation.
Jesus Christ is Love!
God Bless you all!
Sure it gets cold and wet, but there's no place I'd rather work!

Real nice review from Andy this evening. 💪❤️👍🏻
I turn up for work/life everyday!
Mike called with me on Tuesday morning. arrived with a trailer loaded with posts, cement, rails and boards. Dug out holes for 8 posts, and secured them with fast action cement. connected the posts by horizontal rails. Then secured the vertical boards. By the end of the day he had got round to the oil tank. Following morning he returned and fitted the boards on other side of fence, before completing my side. (Approx. 170 boards). He then cleared up remains of old fence, rubble and branches from cut down trees , and removed them to dump. Job complete. My neighbour and I were gobsmacked at the speed, skill and thoroughness of one man. Awesome Mike. Thank you for a great job. I know who to call the next time I need something done.
I don't care if its snowing, It's July!🍻
