After an absence to refocus I am back to share more content about nontoxic living! Some of it might be a word dump and maybe a bit eclectic but it'll be me and being me is all I can offer. I'm so excited to share tips and insight and give y'all the support to continue your nontoxic journey!

Hey everyone! I appreciate your understanding with my extended absence. My little and I got hit hard with illness and I was sick for about 5 weeks and my little 2 weeks. We are much better and well on the road to recovery thank goodness!

It has been HOT this summer and staying hydrated is so important ESPECIALLY if you will be outside! Instead of buying sugar laden sports drinks have you thought about making electrolytes at home??

Sole water is an amazing way to get extra electrolytes in while keeping the sugar out and being able to flavor your drink to your liking!

What is sole water you might ask? Sole water is when you take mineral rich salt (like coarse Redmond’s Real Salt) and soak it in water until it dissolves and the water is then electrolyte rich.

My personal recipe is 1/4-1/2 inch of coarse Redmond’s Real Salt in the bottom of a quart mason jar (with a plastic lid as the salt can rust metal) and topped off with filtered water. When the salt dissolves look for a shimmer all the way through the water. If that isn’t there add more salt to let it saturate the water.

Once all the water is saturated use between 1/4 and 1 teaspoon (depending on your tolerance) of sole water in 16oz of filtered water and flavor as you like! We use glass as sole water can rust metal over time.

My little requested pizza today so pizza it is! Jovial graces us with the best and recipe ever! Our sauce is Jovial crushed tomatoes, Bionaturae tomato paste and Primal Palate amore Italian seasoning. Rounding it off is organic mozzarella, organicgirl spinach and fresh organic pineapple.

It is experiences like this that I want my little to remember. The experience of learning how to cook, how to knead dough, the patience to let it rise and the joy of watching our creation bake to perfection. Healthy fuels our bodies and helps sustain our planet as we learn to also grow our own food leading to more sustainable lives.

What is your way for cooking from scratch?

Lets talk about the glucose drink. The taste is enough to deter many but the ingredients should certainly make you want to run!

Here is a super common brand of glucose drink and I want to talk about the ingredients.

Glucose from corn which is most likely GMO, natural flavoring (which we all know is a vague ingredient label that could mean almost anything!), citric acid which is usually created from black mold. Sodium benzoate which is a toxic preservative, that is banned in numerous countries, that can cause hyperactivity in children and babies, inflammation, and also has antimicrobial properties. To round out the ingredients we see color additives to make our minds think this will taste even more like oranges. Even the food coloring free versions have these unwanted ingredients.

If you are like me you went "I am not drinking this!". Your instincts were right! Thankfully there are other options that are formulated to equal the exact same amount of glucose required for these tests.

The first one I want to talk about is Glucoganics. This product comes in powder and liquid form (liquid is packaged in glass bottles) using only 3 ingredients: organic sugar, organic lemon juice and water. That's it! Their website has a wealth of information including a prewritten letter that you can print off & take to your Dr.

The next alternative is The Fresh Test (https://thefreshtest.com/). The Fresh Test is in a powder & liquid form and its ingredients are non-gmo glucose, crystallized lemon and organic mint for the powder and non-gmo dextrose, organic lemon, organic mint and organic cucumber for the liquid. This company has also consulted with a Board of Medical Advisors as well to ensure precise equivilancy to the traditional glucose drinks.

You can also request an A1C test (this is what I did). The A1C test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. How it does this is by measuring the percentage of hemoglobin proteins in our blood are coated with sugar.

Make sure that any alternatives aren't greenwashed and also check ingredients diligently. Always reach out for an ingredient check if you need to!

This is easily my favorite basket in my pantry. Why, you might ask? Because this is my basket full of One Degree Organic Foods. Everything from old fashioned rolled oats to steel cut oats to instant oatmeal in cacao nibs and apple cinnamon flavors. These oats are special because they are all sprouted (so important when you are eating oats) and all gluten free!! Have you tried any One Degree Organic Foods products? If so what if your favorite?
