Stand For Something
Leadership means to take a stand for something good even if the leader is criticized for it. In my community, I have taken a stand against coaches who have been defrauding their clients through fast talk and no action. Although this has not made me popular amongst a certain element of the coaching industry, the customers that I have helped recover their hard-earned money have sent me more positive notoriety that I was prepared to receive. By taking a stand and backing it up with firm action, I now have a following that I never dreamed that I would have.

For those who are interested in influencing a movement in any industry, they must be willing to put themselves out there and take a firm stand for something important that they want to change. Because change is hard for many people to deal with, the leaders that emerge are those who take on the criticism that comes for advocating for change by viewing it as an opportunity to spread their message further. If the message is true, going head-to-head with the critics is a great way to establish the veracity of the leader’s position. As the leader continues to push for change while fairly and reasonably overcoming the opposition, the leader’s message becomes the normative rule for the industry. Making a difference awaits those who take a stand, use opposition as an opportunity, and who stay the course.
