Dubbed 'The Beatles Last Song', Now & Then was released in November 2023. It's a soft rock ballad written and recorded by John Lennon in 1977, and finally released three decades later by the surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Here, it is arranged for string quartet, with reminiscent textures inspired by producer George Martin's string arranging for the classic Beatles' song Eleanor Rigby. Suitable for intermediate students and professional corporate/function ensembles.

Delighted to have been appointed Sound Force Big Band’s new MD and vocalist. Today’s gig at Kop Hill Climb was an absolute banger, great event (all for charity) and a great crowd!

After a period of summer leave I went to visit this talented bunch again. So pleased to hear they have been working on a couple of my arrangements. It was a privilege as ever to take them through ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ and ‘Wade in the Water’ and hear the progress they have made!

On a very hot Wednesday night how cool was it to be visited by not one but two British Army Bandmasters? We think very!

A visit to us for introductions from the outgoing to incoming Bandmasters of the British Army Band Colchester to help keep our relationship fresh has now become part of their unwritten Standing Orders! Thank you to both Andee and Tom for giving up their own time for visiting. This is a really accessible flexi-band arrangement of Ed Sheeran's 'Bad Habits' which was released in 2021. It only has five parts but they are transposed for all combinations of instruments. it also has rhythm section parts for guitar, bass and keyboard. Works great for mixed ensembles of all sizes, especially for youth or school bands. This song is also available for string quartet.

I conducted this arrangement at a combined concert with British Army Band Colchester and Royal Hospital School band at their Picnic in the Park concert last Sunday. Pompeii by Bastille won a Brit Award for Song of the Year and is 10 years old this year!! This feel good anthem for concert band has added rhythm section parts for bass guitar, guitar and piano. Works as a static piece for marching band and would sound great with additional Corps of Drums!

Last night we were thrilled to welcome back to our Bandroom British Army Band Colchester Bandmaster Andee. And what a natural musical energy and connection she has! No wonder she is now selling her own arrangements via AndMusic (see what we did there Andee)

But last night was about the “Boys”, with certificates presented to Grade 3 Oscar, Grade 5 Jake & Grade 6 Matthew, all on french horn and a uniform was issued to Reuben.

My name is Andee Birkett and I am a bandmaster serving in the Royal Corps of Army Music in the UK.

I have a passion for arranging and composition and have decided to share some of my work under a new business name ‘&Music’

My musical background is in contemporary rock and pop music. I am a bass guitarist and upright bass player so many of my arrangements have a jazz influence.

I mainly arrange for concert band marching band and big band but also some small ensembles - saxophone quartet, string quartet and brass quintet but if you have any requests please get in touch!
