Its not the first and certainly won't be the last, in fact I have another here with the same issue, an Emblem 45SCW with a chewed up oscillation shaft.

Rebuild on a tidy set of Basia's.

4 XTB MGS ready for the owner.

It's fair to say these could be classed as well used! The owner knows a thing or 2 about this carp fishing lark and they'd no doubt seen there fair share of captures.

Gear sets and bearing replaced.

The next time you see these It's likely to be in a video of some epic capture.

Now closed for a long Christmas break which is to be followed by a total knee replacement mid January.

It's looking like the end of February before I will be on the reels again.

3 x XT10000 Aero Technium service.

On strip down this one is in generally very good condition, the spindle to slider screws were loose on all 3.

That's every one I have serviced that has had the screw loose.

Water ingress damage.

Regular ingress of water causes the soaps in the grease to wash away and eventually the grease becomes a non-lubricating dry paste that particularly effects the oscillation mechanism.

On this 6000 tournament it has caused drag on the movement of the Pawl which has resulted in it digging into the shaft and jamming.

The fine bearings on the oscillation shaft have also siezed.

Lack of effective lubrication also causes wear to the gears.

When a frap around the rotor goes wrong, big time!

Rotor and bail wire smashed.

The rotor is £75, anyone guess the cost of the bail wire?

An interesting buch ready for final clean and collection, all one customers.

Best make life a little easier on the degreaser.

At least its not lard!

I now have no capacity to service any reels until January.

I've just opened this Ultegra 14000 after it has been sat on the bottom of a lake for 3 weeks.

Its a reel I serviced early in the year.

I'm amazed how good it is inside and how well it performs. You can see the grease on the oscillation shaft is still in good condition and performing.

Testament to using top quality lubricants.

My own 3 off Shimano Ultegra ci4 14000s, owned since 2012.

They come boxed with 4 spare spools, 1 being unused, this is the only one without carbontex washers.

Regularly serviced and 100% mechanically sound. If looked after these reels will last a lifetime.

There are the usual blemishes you could expect with 10 year old reels and 2 of them have the cracks in the rear cover spine that is common with this model, most sales adverts won't advise of this and will hide in the photographs. It is hardly noticeable and in no way affects the performance or mechanical integrity of the reel.

Price is £425 plus £25 tracked and insured Royal Mail Delivery. The reels can also be collected from Alsager, South Cheshire.

Its been a very busy few months on the reels, thank you for the custom and recommendations.

Unfortunately I now need to increase my prices in some areas.

Please note the following new prices.

Big / medium size carp reels and any rear baitrunner reels are now £20 each.

Float and feeder size reels without rear baitrunner are £15 each.

Multiplier and older fixed spool reels are POA.

Any parts required are at additional cost to the above as is return post of reels if required.

No additional charge on the above prices for mag-sealed reel servicing unless parts are required.

Carbontex washers are generally £8 per spool fitted.

Ice washers are £13 per spool fitted.

Daiwa speed cap conversion is £6 per spool.

Line clips, custom handles etc are all POA.

I've finally started to quieten down enough to get my own reels used for a couple of nights.

I've never been so busy as the last 4 weeks.

1 of 3 Ultegra xsc's stripped ready for cleaning and servicing today along with replacing the one main gear bush with a roller bearing.

Fitting this bearing is an additional £5 on the service cost.

I'm fully booked until early January now.

A few of todays reels, a Daiwa xbr infinity that had a worn out oscillation shaft, not bad as the reel hadn't been serviced since 2012.

A Sonik 8000 Tournos FS with a damaged oscillation shaft and a lovely set of Daiwa ISO 5000s

Today I have mainly been fitting Weston slow oscillation shafts.

Basias and Tournament 6000s being the recipients.

On a run of 19 x 14000 XTDs this last 2 weeks.

They're a great reel for the price.

I often get asked whats my favourite reel but have to admit I don't get too giddy about them as they are tool for a job and it depends how much you want to spend.

However if I was really pushed these are probably my favorite.

Theyre going for mad money at the moment so well worth looking after.

Carbontex Washers.

These make a massive difference to the drag of most reels, you get a much more progressive clutch and the performance doesn't alter whether wet or dry, unlike many OEM drag systems.

Here is a set ready to replace the standard felt ones on a Shimano aero Tech mgs xtb.

I seem to have a run of XTB Mgs this week.

One customer has sent 4, one had a little tight spot on the back spool position.

The retaining screw for the bottom oscillation slider support rail was missing, allowing it to slide back on the return stroke.
