Tonight, we moved the chicken flock to a new coop!
We moved them for a few reasons:
The new coop is in the barn with the big animals, including Maverick, our Great Pyrenees. We are hoping that by moving them out there, they will better be protected from predators (๐ฆ) and it will keep them from making a mess in our garage, porch, and landscaping. This will also hopefully make our daily routine of letting animals out, feeding, and putting animals up at night more efficient by having them all in the same place. An added bonus is that chickens are pasture sanitizers, in that they will scratch apart horse and cow poo to get fly larva and other bugs out of it, in turn making it break down faster.
Moving them out was no easy task. We had to catch them all one-by-one and load them in a crate and pack them out to the barn. Weโll see if they stay out there or try to make their way back to their old coop.
Iโm thinking if we leave them in there with food, and water, and everything they need for a couple days, maybe theyโll want to stay when we let them out to free range. ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ Thoughts?
