Sometimes the most creative marketing strategy comes from an unexpected partnership. This week’s , we are looking at the collaboration between Heinz and Absolut Vodka. The unlikely duo made the decision to collaborate in order to produce a renowned, yet limited-edition, vodka pasta sauce in the UK. Heinz provided the culinary know-how for the delectable pasta sauce, and Absolut Vodka elevated it. The campaign is a prime example of how companies might participate in a social media conversation. Pasta and vodka gained popularity in 2020 after influencer Gigi Hadid posted her sauce recipe, which quickly gained widespread attention. The response gave rise to a natural chance for Heinz and Absolut to work together. By combining their expertise and resources, both brands are able to push the boundaries of traditional flavor profiles and offer consumers an unforgettable taste experience.

Q: What’s your professional background?
A: After some time in sales I spent 3 years as part of the street team for Capital FM in the UK. When I moved on from there I went freelance, working with the country's top experiential and guerrilla marketing agencies. I then took a series of strategic/management roles both over there and over here - I met Megan through one of them and we quickly became great friends. Here we are a few years later and we’ve decided to reignite our professional chemistry to create The Marketology Lab.

Q: How do you like to start your day?
A: With coffee! I’m British so I was always a tea drinker, but alas, America converted me!

Q: What do you like most about marketing?
A: The energy it gives me. I’ll often wake in the night with an idea, type it in my iPhone notes and then struggle to get back to sleep because I can’t wait to execute on it the next day.

Q: What’s the most interesting thing you’ve done to market a brand?
A: While working in radio I was promoting a competition for listeners to win their dream wedding, as part of the promotion I had to wear a wedding dress every shift for 3 months. One rainy weekend we happened to also be promoting a fitness bootcamp - the result was army training, on a muddy field, in a wedding dress, in the pouring rain!

For this week’s , we are showcasing a SWEET April Fool’s campaign done by Sour Patch Kids! Sour Patch Kids stirred up a storm of laughter this April Fools' Day with their prank: introducing "Sour Adults"! The candy brand known for its tongue-tingling treats decided to flip the script, targeting the grown-ups who've outgrown their sweet tooth. The fictional "Sour Adults" concept promised all the pucker-worthy sourness with a dash of mature sophistication – a hilarious twist on their classic sour candy.

Their marketing team went all out, teasing the idea of a sour candy that matches the complexity and seriousness of adult life. They playfully suggested flavors like "Bitter Lime" and "Unsweetened Lemon" to reflect the challenges of adulting. Social media erupted with reactions ranging from disbelief to sheer delight as people couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of the concept.
