The garden in summer
The birds will have plenty of crabapples this winter. I’ve never seen the trees so full.
The waterfall under the sumac trees
My feeble attempt at a dried flower arrangement. (It’s already falling apart. These things are extremely fragile.
These three Angel Wing begonias were over-wintered under grow lights in the basement. (cut them back to about a foot tall, put them in smaller pots, then put them back in the big planters for the summer. ) MORE FREE PLANTS!
This coleus was started from cuttings from last year’s plant. (To start coleus from cuttings, cut a piece from a plant you like, remove bottom leaves. Stick it in a planter with potting soil. This one had 4 or 5 cuttings.). FREE PLANTS!
Phlox and anemones. The stars of Autumn.
Angel’s Trumpet (brugmansia) is full of these beautiful flowers today.
There are still lots of blooms out there.
The driveway, 2019 and today.
Garden art on the walls. I’m always on the lookout for stuff that I can put in the garden without letting it get too crazy. These are the things I have hanging on walls and fences outside the house.
Many of my 15-foot (+] sunflowers fell in the gusty winds this week. Once again, the birds get a buffet.
Today in the garden.
The pink perennial hibiscus. These were taken two days ago. It now has 7 of these huge blooms and many buds that haven’t opened yet. It leaves me flabbergasted!
Queen of the Prairie (Filipendula). Now blooming in every garden.
Red, White and blue bouquet
The waterfall garden this evening.
The ladies and their rose hats.
This is Meadowrue. I almost cut off the buds last week because the plants were hiding the ones behind them. I’m so glad I didn’t. I love those bright splashes of light yellow.
Paths and sidewalks in the garden. I have removed all grass and replaced them with garden paths. I was blessed with a perfect location with many levels to work with.
It’s getting colorful here.
A couple years ago someone gave me a tub full of irises. I thought there were too many, but I planted all of them. I’m so glad I did.
The garden today
My ladies with their blooms
Blooming between the cracks.
This spring is driving me crazy! It’s cold, it’s windy and there’s almost no sun.
Against all the rules (again), I started planting some of the seedlings that I started under lights.
Two beautiful days in the garden and I’m pooped! But I’m finding so much green under those flat leaves - bee balm, violas, daylilies, coreopsis, lamium, creeping Jenny and several other ground covers. There are just a few small patches of snow here and there (along with that mountain at the end of the driveway). The forecast includes 70s for the rest of the week. I think the gardening season is finally here!
