Come visit me this Saturday, July 13 from 10am to 3pm at the Train Station Park in Barry's Bay, ON! I have some new creations made
Day 12 of 12 days of Birds - Common Raven
Final bird!! They call it common but in my eyes there's nothing common about a Raven. They are incredibly intelligent and inquisitive. They've been known to present "gifts" to humans who are trusted through their eyes. They are a revered bird in many cultures. It was a joy to bring the iridescence of this raven's feathers to life. This was a commission piece made specifically in honor of the client's family
Day 11 of 12 days of Birds - Ruby-throated Hummingbird
We're nearly there!! Which is also how I felt when creating this hummingbird. This one quite literally made my hands bleed, working with a piece that is so small, delicate and contains wire will do that. BUT it was worth it! This hummer turned out far better than I expected.
Day 10 of 12 Days of Birds - American Robin
This one was felted with a lot of love and a few tears. It was made in honor of a family member of mine who passed away a few years ago and left a hole in our hearts ๐ฉต
Day 9 of 12 days of Birds - Baltimore Oriole
Every spring I listen for the distinct melodic call of the Baltimore Oriole, so I can get a glance at its flashy yellow feathers. We have one that visits our sugar maple trees every spring, just in time for the blossoms to bloom, and can usually be seen at the very top of our trees. So I made this one in honor of our visitor
Day 8 of 12 Days of Birds - Boreal Chickadee
I felted this little one back in the summer and simply forgot to post. I'm sure anyone south of the Boreal forest of Canada is quite familiar with the more common and outgoing Black-capped Chickadee, but many may not know about its shy and sweet cousin, the Boreal Chickadee. They prefer to stay all year round in their habitat of coniferous forests, and have a softer more raspy call in comparison to their more southern cousin the Black- capped Chickadee. If you see one you should consider buying a lotto ticket - b/c you are lucky!
Day 7 of 12 Days of Birds - Red-winged Blackbird
For many people a Robin is their first sign of spring - for me it's the call and flashy red and orange of the Red-winged Blackbird. This is my sweet and simple felted wool Red-winged Blackbird โค๏ธ๐งก๐ค. Happy Sunday!
Day 6 of 12 days of Birds - Evening Grosbeak
I love the expression and head tilt that turned out on this felted wool Evening Grosbeak
Day 5 of 12 days of Birds - Barn Swallow
I made this felted barn swallow for a friend of mine, who waits patiently for the barn swallows to return to their yard every spring.
I could easily waste an hour, watching barn and tree swallows dance through the air gracefully as they chipper away in song. It's the sound of my childhood and long summer days
**I don't know why, but it seems not every post from my Instagram will post to my FB. So in case you were wondering if you missed Day 3, here it is:
Day 3 of 12 Days of Birds - Ruffed Grouse
Or to many folks, a partridge. This little guy is special and one of a kind, it's the only grouse I've felted thus far. I think he's absolutely adorable and has a ton of character. It made it even better knowing the person receiving this spunky bird would appreciate him just as much as I do.
..and a partridge in a pear tree. Cheers!
Day 4 of 12 Days of Birds - Black-capped Chickadee
I love chickadees. I appreciate their simplicity in looks, delightful character and mastery to thrive. In the winter I often watch them grab a seed to eat and another to hide, caching away for later between the cracks of tree bark.
Meet my wool felted Black-capped Chickadee
Day 2 of 12 days of Birds - felted European Robin
I went on a trip to England and Scotland a little while back and was pleasantly surprised to find European Robins to be much smaller; more like a cute, fluff ball with wings in comparison to our American Robins in Canada. However, I also learned they are intensely territorial, which is why in the wild you'll only see one male in one area at one time, or else it's a fight for territory, possibly to the death. So while they are cute, they are rather intense by character ๐
Cheers ๐ฅ to the felted fierce European Robin
12 Days of Birds - Day 1- felted Eastern Bluebird
I made A LOT of birds in preparation for the holidays, and I thought I'd do something fun to show you some of the different birds I made. Every day for 12 days I'll post a different felted bird I made. Some may be familiar from my markets posts, but they're just so lovely I feel they need their own posts to showcase them.
Today, enjoy the Eastern Bluebird. We have Bluebirds that nest in our backyard every spring, so I did a photoshoot with this bluebird in the same places I often see our resident Bluebirds
So I've been dealing with a little creative burnout recently. I find there is a very fine line between creating for myself and creating for other people, I find I have to take creative breaks (like this felted painting) from making commissions so I can stay true to myself and my artwork. I would hate for the thing that I do that brings me great joy, to turn into mundane work. Which is why I won't be taking on any more commissions for now. I plan to complete the commissions I've already committed to, but I will not be accepting anymore for the time being.
I just need a little break to create for myself ๐ฅฐ
Thank you all for understanding โค๏ธ
