TdF Day 23 - Final Day! - Today's fiber was Polwarth from Melissa's Yarn Barn. I walked 2.17 miles while spinning - that makes my total miles walked during the tour 69.17. I also crocheted the body for another turtle for the baby sea turtle afghan.
TdF Day 22: Today, I walked and spun longer than any day of the tour so far this year - 4.08 miles! Today's fiber was rambouillet from Melissa's Yarn Barn. This morning, my spindle had a very unfortunate accident. I dropped it, and the fixes from several months ago gave out for the last time. :( I have been able to keep spinning, though, by using it as a hookless, bottom-whorl spindle. It's working, but I think I dropped it several dozen times tonight. In other news, I crocheted the body of a third turtle.
TdF Day21: I spun outside today and didn't drop my spindle once! Woo-hoo! I walked 3.7 miles while spinning. The first pic is of the rest of yesterday's fiber. Today's was alpaca from Puddin Ridge Fibers. I also crocheted the body of a second turtle.
TdF Day 20: Since I didn't post any pictures yesterday, the fiber for Day 19 was in the form of a rolag from AJem Fiber Arts & Angoras. It was a combination of falkland/BFL/merino/tussah silk noil and was the first time I had ever spun from a rolag! The fiber for Day 20 was some rambouillet from Melissa's Yarn Barn. I walked 3.24 miles today while spinning and winding. I knit six rows on the green project. My last task for tonight was to crochet the head and limbs on one of the baby sea turtles. I must have started over five or six times. It took over an hour, but I have it figured out now. Yea!
TdF Day 19: I'm going to have to call this a rest day. Will catch up tomorrow.
TdF Day 18 update: Today's gorgeous fiber was from Greenwood Fiberworks - merino/tencel (50/50). I walked 3.57 miles today while spinning, crocheted three more baby sea turtle shells, and knit five more rows on the green project. Only a few days left!
TdF Day 16: I walked 2.47 miles while spinning some fiber from Paradise Fibers - superfine merino / rose fiber / bamboo top / faux cashmere (38/25/25/12%). I crocheted three turtle shells for the baby sea turtle afghan after I brushed up on the magic ring, and knit five rows on the green project.
I swear! đ
TdF Day 15: I walked 4.07 miles while winding and spinning. Today's fiber was alpaca/merino (63/37) from Clear Sky Fiber Arts. I tucked in all the ends on the baby sea turtle afghan (no pic), and knit five rows on the green project.
TdF Day 14: Today's fiber was another from Melissa's Yarn Barn - this time, some rambouillet. I walked 2.76 miles while spinning. I crocheted three rows on the baby sea turtle afghan instead of four because only three rows were needed. Yea! Now to tuck in 40+ ends and then crochet the baby sea turtles and a starfish to be attached to the afghan. The big white knitting needle marks where I was when the tour began. Last, but not least, is the green project. Since I only needed three rows for the sea turtle afghan, I added an additional row to the green project, knitting six rows instead of five.
TdF Day 12: 2.47 miles walked while winding and spinning. Today's fiber was polwarth from Melissa's Yarn Barn. (I'll call it a semi-rest day, my first, since I didn't get my other two goals reached before midnight. Working on getting ready for a family visit.)
TdF Day11: 2.57 miles walked while spinning. Today's fiber was rambouillet from Melissa's Yarn Barn. Time to wind off Days 9-11. Again, four rows on the baby sea turtle afghan, and five rows on the green project.

Today's TdF updates: On Day 10, I walked 3.94 miles while spinning some organic polwarth/silk (80/20) from Greenwood Fiberworks. I also crocheted four more rows on the baby sea turtle afghan and knit five rows on the green project. Both of those are nearing the end, so I'll need to substitute something else for each of those for my daily goals.
TdF Day 9: Walked 2.15 miles while spinning some polwarth from Melissa's Yarn Barn. I chain-plied the fiber from the first eight days, set the spin, and wound it into a center-pull ball. I crocheted four more rows on the baby sea turtle afghan, and knit five more rows on the green project.
Today's spin (TdF Day 8 ) was from Sheepishly Made: Falkland/Border Leicester/Polwarth/Romney (40/25/25/10). I walked 4.03 miles while spinning and winding what was on the spindle into a center-pull ball, crocheted four rows on the Baby Sea Turtle Afghan, and knitted five rows on the green project.
TdF Day 7: Walked 3.25 miles while spinning this merino/bamboo fiber from Curly C'Ewes. Four more rows crocheted on the blue afghan (Baby Sea Turtle Afghan). Five more rows knitted on the green project.
Progress for TdF Day 5 = 2 miles walked while spinning (50% superfine merino / 25% YAK / 25% mulberry silk), another four rows crocheted, another five rows knitted. The fiber for the spin was from Paradise Fibers.
TdF Day 4: This morning's spin/walk was with shaniko from Crafted By Locals. I crocheted four more rows on the afghan, and knit five more rows on the green project.
TdF Day 3: Today I walked 4.01 miles while spinning and, subsequently, winding the first three days' spins into a center-pull ball. I also completed 4 rows on the crochet blanket and 5 on the knitted project. The fiber from today's spin was from Rovenko's Windy Acres Farm and Fiber Mill - 68% alpaca, 25% merino, 7% bamboo.
TdF Day 2 is in the books. Walked 2.97 miles while spinning, completed 4 rows on a crochet afghan, and 5 rows on a knitted project. I was not happy with the look of the white shaniko tweed for in between the colors each day, so I undid that and grabbed some black alpaca for a stained-glass look. I like it much better! Today's fiber was a purple wool (merino) and bamboo blend from Recycled Yarn Co.

Yesteryear
Not having grown up in Ohio, my first trip to COSI wasnât until I was in high school in the late 70s. One of my favorite parts was called âYesteryear,â where â back then â there were actual people doing demonstrations. I was fascinated by the carding of wool and spinning!
While I learned how to crochet and knit, the memory of Yesteryear was always in the back of my mind. Finally, in 2009, I tried my hand at spinning. It was so relaxing! I have since learned to spin: wool, alpaca, angora, even chiengora! (Thatâs dog-fur yarn; and, no, it doesnât smell when itâs wet. đ Iâve spun fur from a Border Collie, Great Pyrenees, Golden Retriever, and Husky.)
I spin solely with a drop spindle, which is pictured in my cover photo. My favorite way to spin fiber is into a Z-spun, very fine yarn â even thread!
