Important take by - the fight against antisemitism is urgent, and those who truly care about winning it are focused on building broader solidarity against hate and extremism, not stoking false trade offs with Palestinian human rights or free speech in the US.
Opinion: President Biden has taken a vital step to counter antisemitism in America | CNN Alex Soros writes that the Biden administration’s initiative to respond to the scourge of antisemitism in the country is essential. The White House initiative embraces a broad-based approach to the problem of antisemitism, he says.
Biden should prioritize American workers and climate solutions over ideologically extreme trade bodies - and Congress should give this bipartisan support. My latest in The Hill.

Dems Could Win:
1) voters now see a choice between steady progress or conspiracists and culture warriors
2) GOP pulled to extremes. Dems united under a big tent.
3) Dems solving problem. GOP stirring up trouble.
All differences from 2010, when Tea Party was focused on Obama and Obamacare. Many Dem frontlines were attacking the ACA and Dem party. Climate vote was political “dangerous” where now it is a big win.
I Believe that Dems Will Win! (or, at least, Could Win) Until this week, most pundits thought that Congressional Democrats had been headed for a repeat of the 2010 midterm onslaught.

Great to see & Gayle Smith encourage technology transfer for COVID-19 vaccines - dual impact on and getting us all beyond this pandemic! A short 👇👇
🌎 faces MASSIVE vaccine access gap between rich and poor countries. While most people in high income countries have received at least one dose, only true of ONE PERCENT in low-income countries. Yes, you read that right
Current trajectory of vaccine production and distribution ➡️, many countries not reaching enough vaccination until 2023. 🌍 needs MORE vaccines and we need them NOW!
BUT, it’s not that easy! The most effective vaccines (mRNA) are difficult to make and require special training and equipment. That’s where “technology transfer” comes in. Tech transfer means teaching or sharing knowledge and tools necessary to produce vaccines. NOW
There's a first of its kind COVID-19 mRNA vaccine tech transfer hub in South Africa - supported by and - that aims to close the vaccine gap in Africa. BUT no manufacturer has stepped up to contribute in a meaningful way.
To END this pandemic (and prepare for the next one), governments, pharmaceutical companies, and civil society must join forces to ensure vaccines are more equitably produced and distributed. Tech transfer is key.
The Global South is setting an agenda for profound and long-lasting changes to global vaccine manufacturing, but they can’t do it alone.
The USG should prioritize ramping up vaccine production domestically and through encouraging companies like Pfizer and Moderna to share technology with Global South manufacturers that are ready and willing to help produce lifesaving doses.
In April, 60+ NGOs asked to launch a global vaccine manufacturing program. Great to see Team Biden show global leadership but pledges won’t matter without greater ambition & urgency.
We at Open Society Foundations are supporting bold solutions, the likes of which we have not seen since post-WWII, to help navigate us out of this pandemic and into economic recovery. Technology transfer toward is a critical step on that path.

The right to organize & dissent is universal. The Cuban uprising reminds us what people starved of democracy will risk to demand it. We must respect the fight of the Cuban people on their own terms, not as an extension of 🇺🇸 or 🇨🇺 govt policy.
can and must do more to (1) Support dissenters’ access to the internet & other vital means of communicating, (2) welcome political refugees, & (3) end anachronistic policies that harm the Cuban people.
This moment goes beyond the US-Cuba relationship and requires the entire international community to act, from world leaders, the , the and civil society.
Those exploiting the courage of 🇨🇺 protesters to demand armed intervention do a disservice to the uprising. GOP officials who cheered violent crackdowns on protesters lack credibility to blast the 🇨🇺 govt and fuel the regime’s claim of US hypocrisy.
The Cuban people face a very real humanitarian & democracy crisis. Those of us committed to justice and solidarity must find ways to support the Cuban people, and their freedom to dissent, organize and decide their own future.

I’ve been deeply moved - and saddened - by the flood of notes from so many current and former Catholics, alienated by the many moral failings of the US Bishops. I also appreciated how many found comfort in being reminded of the Catholic leaders who are living the Gospel every day in some of the harshest places on Earth. Thank you for the fellowship and, dare I say, communion with you.

Opinion | The Bishops Betray a Faithful President The efforts by conservative bishops to arbitrate who receives communion reinforce why the American bishops so often stand alone.
Because Catholicism takes seriously sins of omission, here are some glaring examples of
“With our Black, brown and Jewish brothers and sisters under attack from violent extremists, we Bishops call on Republican and corporate leaders to stop the rhetoric, algorithms, and cowardice that fuel and profit from hate.”
“With America losing its grip on right and wrong, fact and fiction, we Catholic Bishops must model moral leadership. We therefore announce a truth commission on the abuses in our ranks and a commitment to penance and accountability to promote healing.”
“We Bishops call on all members of Congress immediately to pass the and climate agenda President Biden has proposed that guarantees basic dignity and security for every child, parent, & senior citizen, as well as the workers who care for them.”
“As our most vulnerable neighbors face terror in their home countries, at the border and once they arrive, we call on every leader with the power to humanize our refugee and immigration policies to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly before God.”
