Basses of the 90s: Ibanez Soundgear. This series considered to be hugely successful in company’s portfolio, up from ‘87 to this day. When anybody talkin’ Ibanez, thou mean Soundgear. Today’s specimen is a sort of black sheep of the lineup - a full maple neckthrough SR2000 aka “Mamluk Bass”, who’s standing on top of the list according to SR hierarchy (in 1993-94 production years). It is believed that these basses was a company (cost-effective) take on elite Spector and Warwick basses (i.e. NS-2 and Streamer Stage I). The Ibanez guys put a great skill into creating something that would sound modern and be very easy to handle. The Mamluk’s ergonomics is amazing - from sleek rounded body to thinnest neck’s profile ever imaginable (slim D). SR2000 offers 5-piece maple&walnut neck with wenge fretboard and soft maple body wings, reversed P + J pickup set wired into “general purpose” Vari-Mid Tone System and pioneered Accu-Cast hardware. Chemistry is perfect: as intended, the bass sounds very clear and transparent all throughout its range, pumping insane midrange and high end clarity. We had upgraded this bass with EMG pickups set and modified OBP-3 preamp (be sure to check out crazy electronics geeks, BAZcustom 😎🤟🏿) to deliver even better tonal capabilities. With EMGs on board, the dynamics and response is amazing, while modified OBP-3 preamp brings most versatile tone’s correction at your desk. If you’re looking for an easy-to-play bass with strong mid freq foundation, go for an ol’ Mameluke Bass! 💪🏿😈.
