Elect Todd Watson for District Attorney, 35th Judicial Circuit-2022
Todd Watson is seeking the office of District Attorney after practicing law for 21 years.
He has been employed by the District Attorney's office since 2007 and has served as the Chief Assistant District Attorney for the last decade.
Thank you to everyone who came to Monroeville and to Evergreen to see Todd as he was sworn in as District Attorney for the 35th Judicial Circuit. We appreciate your support and your prayers.
You are invited to the investiture ceremonies in Monroe County and in Conecuh County on Sunday, January 15, 2023.
Please come.
Following the early retirement of Steve Wadlington, Todd Watson was appointed as District Attorney by Governor Ivey today. Judge Clint Hyde administered the oath of office in Conecuh County, and Judge Jack Weaver administered the oath of office in Monroe County.
Todd will finish the remainder of this term and will begin his elected term in January 2023. Because his elected term will begin in January, no public ceremony or reception was held today. There will be a public ceremony and reception in January.
I am humbled by your support tonight. I am grateful to each person who helped with this campaign and who worked tirelessly to help us win.
Today is the day! Please ask for a Democratic ballot, and vote for Todd Watson for District Attorney. Thank you all for your support.
Opening day in Evergreen! We sponsored a t-ball team.
We had so much fun at the Strawberry Festival that we forgot to take pictures. We visited with new and old friends, ate good food, listened to great music, and gave away cards, bumper stickers, buttons, and pens. If we missed you or if you want any of those items, please let us know!
Hillcrest Jaguar Basketball Players, it has been my privilege to watch you play and get to know you this season. While the outcome today was not what we hoped, you played with class. Thank you for representing us well.
It has come to my attention I need to address a concern the voting public has about the back log of cases and specifically murder cases on the criminal docket in our circuit. Although this has become the focus of some, all the cases our office prosecutes are important.
I have been assigned primarily to child support during the last ten years I have been in this office. However,
I am aware many criminal cases have been pending for some time. In checking on these cases it looks like the number of cases was beginning to build before the Covid pandemic for various reasons. In addition, the Covid pandemic has caused the cancellation of jury terms and further delays in cases going to trial.
I make no excuses for any delays that have occurred. However, I have a plan to have attorneys in place (including myself) to try cases as quickly as possible and to move all cases along. I will be asking the court for additional jury terms and dates as well as settlement dates.
One thing that did not stop during this pandemic is the violence and murders that are happening in our circuit. I want a chance to correct these and other issues. The district attorney’s office deals with many different issues and cases. I am aware of many concerns and I have a plan how to move our office into the future and address the problems we have in our communities and jails.
I am asking the public to give me an opportunity and a chance to lead the District Attorney’s Office. I am young enough to provide the energy and innovation necessary to lead us into the future. Additionally, I have enough experience and common sense to do what is right and to run the office efficiently and fairly.
I hope this begins to address part of the issue many of you have. If given the opportunity I can alleviate many of these problems with the help of the courts, law enforcement and good juries. Thank you.
I want to tell everyone who reached out to me on my birthday how special it was to hear from so many of you. Your love and support is much appreciated by my family and me. Thank you to all who wished me well. For those of you that don’t know, I turned 48 years old. We appreciate your continued support and prayers during our endeavor to represent all citizens of the 35th Circuit as your next District Attorney.
This weekend was the Alabama Distinguished Young Woman program. Our daughter, Anna, is the 2021 Conecuh County DYW. Because her program was virtual last year, she was invited to participate in an on-stage interview. She also got to visit backstage with 2022 Monroe County DYW, Demi Dees, and 2022 Conecuh County DYW, Sydney Lucas. Demi and Sydney did a great job this year, and they represented our circuit well.
I saw Justin Williams in the old courthouse in Monroeville. I am glad his mother snapped this picture of us.
Even the young children know…Vote Todd Watson for District Attorney!!
