The Outdoor Capital of the UK

Connect to your Glenfinnan and Harry Potter Adventure 🚂🚂🚂 in the Outdoor Capital of the UK! www.outdoorcapital.co.uk

The famous Glenfinnan viaduct carries the railway to Glenfinnan Station across a 1,000 feet span, 100 feet above the ground costing the princely sum of £18,904 when it was built in 1897!

The Jacobite Steam train runs from here to Fort William and Mallaig in summer months with regular trains available the rest of the year.

The filming of the second and third Harry Potter movies, took place in this area with the Hogwarts Express calling at Glenfinnan!

Framed amid typically spectacular Highland scenery at the head of Loch Shiel with sweeping glens as a backdrop, stands this incredible and poignant monument to the final Jacobite uprising.
Erected, in 1815, in tribute to the Jacobite clansmen who fought and died in the cause of Prince Charles Edward Stuart.

The lone kilted highlander atop the 18m high column surveys the land, where the Highland way of life was soon to be cruelly extinguished...............

By using on Facebook and Instagram you can win your very own Outdoor Capital Adventure as well as getting your amazing shots seen by our huge base of fans all over the world!

We hope to give you a warm highland welcome soon! Find out more at www.outdoorcapital.co.uk

VisitScotland has match-funded the Outdoor Capital of the UK’s exciting new digital campaign through its Growth Fund, while the group will also benefit from further funding from the Highland LEADER Programme.

LEADER is part of The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas.
Growth Fund applicants are required to align their marketing with VisitScotland’s strategies and campaigns, including the global Spirit of Scotland campaign. They are also encouraged to think about how they can take advantage of Scotland’s Themed Years, with 2017 being named the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology.

The Milky Way over Glen Etive.

Sunday was the last night of our camper van adventure so we headed to the dark skies of Glen Etive hoping it would stay clear so we could get to see the Milky Way. What a sight!!

The Moorings Hotel - stopped for coffee today while out walking wee Bunty. She was pleased to have graduated from the canal path. At long last. No more gate crashing the cafe while off lead....
