برطانوی خبر رساں ایجنسی کے مطابق انٹرنیشنل کرکٹ کونسل نے اپنے بیان میں کہا کہ رواں ماہ ہونے والے ورلڈ ٹی ٹوئنٹی ٹورنامنٹ سے بیٹسمین کے لیے بیٹسمین کی اصطلاح استعمال نہیں کی جائے گی۔

آئی سی سی کا کہنا ہے کہ بیٹسمین کی جگہ صنفی جانبداری سے پاک لفظ ’بیٹر‘ استعمال کیا جائے گا جو کہ خواتین اور مرد دونوں کیلئے استعمال ہوسکے گا۔

خیال رہے کہ کرکٹ میں بیٹسمین اس کھلاڑی کو کہتے ہیں جو کریز پر آکر بیٹ کی مدد سے گیند کو مختلف شارٹس لگا کر رنز حاصل کرتا ہے۔

اب تک اس کھلاڑی کیلئے بیٹسمین کی اصطلاح استعمال کی جاتی رہی ہے۔ یہ لفظ دو حصوں پر مشتمل ہے، ایک ’بیٹس‘ جس کا مطلب بلا اور دوسرا ’مین‘ جس سے مراد کھلاڑی ہے لیکن مین کا لفظ مردوں کے لیے استعمال ہوتا ہے اور ویمن کرکٹ میچ کے دوران اس لفظ کا استعمال لغوی اعتبار سے غلط ہوتا ہے۔

کرکٹ میں خواتین کے بڑھتے ہوئے کردار اور خواتین کرکٹ کی مقبولیت کے بعد یہ فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے کہ بیٹسمین کے بجائے ’بیٹر‘ کا لفظ استعمال کیا جائے تاکہ اس سے مرد یا عورت کو کوئی تاثر ہی نہ جائے۔

کرکٹ کے قوانین ترتیب دینے والی اتھارٹی میری لیبون کرکٹ کلب (ایم سی سی) نے گذشتہ ماہ بیٹسمین کے لفظ کو بیٹر سے تبدیل کرنے کی منظوری دی تھی۔

خیال رہے کہ ورلڈ ٹی ٹوئنٹی کا آغاز 17 اکتوبر سے عمان اور متحدہ عرب امارات میں ہوگا۔
