đź’” It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Paul's passing on Friday, May 19. His departure leaves a void that words cannot fully express. Paul was an incredible artist who touched the lives of many, from fellow artists and friends to his students and even strangers who admired his work.

He was a source of inspiration for all, living his life with unwavering passion, pursuing his dreams through painting, sculpting, teaching, and gardening. Paul's love and talent knew no bounds. In his final moments, he found solace surrounded by his beloved wife, son, daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law.

Though we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that Paul's spirit will forever live on through the beauty of his art. Every brushstroke and every piece he created is a testament to his incredible legacy.

May his memory be a guiding light in our hearts, and may his artwork continue to inspire and captivate us all.

Vancouver Art Gallery From March 4 to April 28, 2017 Paul was part of the exhibition, Pacific Crossings: Hong Kong Artists in Vancouver. Presented as part of the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Institute of Asian Art initiative and curated by Diana Freundl, Associate Curator, Asian Art.

"June 2017 marks the 20-year anniversary of the transfer of Hong Kong sovereignty from the United Kingdom to mainland China. In the lead up to the handover, tens of thousands of Hong Kong residents immigrated to Canada, many choosing to settle in Vancouver, and among them were a significant number of artists. Pacific Crossings presents works from well-known Hong Kong artists created after their relocation to Vancouver throughout the 1960-90s. It explores various visual languages from Hong Kong’s modern and contemporary art beginnings including ink painting, abstract and landscape painting, and examines the influence that a new environment had on their practices. Participating artists include Paul Chui, Carrie Koo, Josh Hon, and David Lam." Excerpt from Vancouver Art Gallery invitation.
