Take a moment to breathe 🌬️

Box breathing is a meditative method that can reduce anxiety and increase concentration and mental clarity. Start by breathing in deeply for four seconds... holding your breath for four seconds... breathing out for four seconds... and holding again for four seconds (then repeat).

Body positivity and body neutrality are two movements that have gained popularity over the years. On the surface, it’s easy to see why. But do the movements actually do what they claim?

Mental 👏 health 👏 is 👏 health 👏

Caring for your mental health is always important. However, at the beginning of the new year, it can feel especially crucial. The stress of the holiday season coupled with the pressures of the new year can leave many of us feeling depleted 🪫

Tips for getting started on your mental health journey:
🔋 Check in with a licensed therapist, counselor, or psychiatrist. One-on-one sessions with a professional can help you develop specific strategies to cope with your unique challenges.
🔋 Support groups are also a great way to focus on your mental health. Support groups allow you to connect with others who are facing similar struggles. Together, you can share stories, trade advice, and build a trusting community. Support groups aren’t a replacement for one-on-one therapy, but they are a great supplement!

How are you focusing on your mental health in the new year? ⬇️

Let's talk about New Year's resolutions 🗣 Do you feel pressure to become a "new you" in the new year?

We break down how "New Year, New Me" rhetoric can be damaging and what to do in place of making New Year's resolutions in our newest blog post, "You Don’t Need to Reinvent Yourself This Year. Here’s What to Do Instead." Read more here: https://medium.com/sesh-groups/you-dont-need-to-reinvent-yourself-this-year-here-s-what-to-do-instead-f0487637f74d

Photos from Sesh's post 16/01/2023

Here's the thing, you DON'T have to be a new person in the new year. New Year's resolutions sound great in theory, but in reality, they may actually cause more problems than they solve. When you strive to create a “new you," you send yourself a powerful message - that the current “you” isn’t good enough.

There's nothing wrong with setting goals for the new year, but it's important to do it the right way to not create unnecessary pressure or damage your self-esteem.
✨ Set an intention: choose a theme, word, or phrase to serve as inspiration for the year ahead.
✨ Focus on small, actionable habits instead of large milestones.
✨ Self-improvement over self-transformation: embrace your strengths, imperfections, and all of the different parts of you in between.

No matter where you are on your journey, you are worthy of love, happiness, and respect. In fact, you’re worthy of all of those things even if you don’t choose to make any improvements at all! Your self-worth is not dependent on your achievements 💙
