5+ hours of Feldman in Stockholm today!
This afternoon will be the closing concert of the festival, featuring Mivos Quartet performing Morton Feldman's monumental work "String Quartet no 2", lasting up to 6 hours. But please don't be discouraged by the duration - for this performance, the audience is welcome to quietly move in and out of the performance space, so you are all free to take a break whenever you feel like it.
This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this extraordinary example of Feldman's trademark long durations, and we highly recommend you all to join us!
This concert is presented in collaboration with Samtida Musik and the Royal College of Music.

As this post will clearly demonstrate, I very much need to improve my social media presence as it relates to things I am happy and grateful to be doing.
A case it point - back in March, I had the great pleasure to coach a wonderful viola quartet at Penn State. It was wonderful to meet, hear, and work with these excellent violists on their newly commissioned work. Bravo to all of them and to the evidently excellent work that Tim Deighton is doing in his studio!

The Mivos Quartet, “one of America’s most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles” (Chicago Reader)
Mivos has worked closely with artists such as Cecile McLorin Salvant (Ogresse), Ambrose Akinmusire (Origami Harvest), Ned Rothenberg, Timucin Sahin, Nate Wooley, and most recently guitarist, composer, and 2019 MacArthur Fellow, Mary Halvorson with whom they will appear at Big Ears.
But they have a second show at Big Ears ‘23 as well, playing all of Steve Reich’s string quartets. Their album, ‘Steve Reich: The String Quartets,’ was released this week! bigearsfestival.org
