World Parrot Day
World Parrot Day is celebrated each year on May 31.
It began in 2004 by the World Parrot Trust as a rally held in Trafalgar Square in London, England, as a way to draw attention to the devastation caused by the trade in wild-caught birds.

They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and each with their own unique personalities. We love parrots for their vibrant presence and the joy they bring into our lives.
However, our beloved parrots face significant threats. One in three parrot species is at risk of extinction in the wild, and many suffer from improper care in homes. It's amazing to think that back on the first ever there were only 87 kฤkฤpล alive. Twenty years on the population is 247.
The World Parrot Trust and the NZ Parrot Trust provide valuable funding, support and guidance to many aspects of our programme from health and breeding to research and technology. Together with our National Partner Meridian Energy we send them thanks from the deep south of Aotearoa on this special milestone World Parrot Day!

Wild parrots are in need of protection from poaching for trade and habitat destruction, while companion birds require proper care, nutrition and enrichment. By signing the Pledge to Parrots you can make a commitment to parrots by drawing attention to the problems they face and becoming part of the solution.
"I pledge to support wild parrots by raising awareness of threats to their survival like trapping for the wildlife trade and habitat loss. I promise to endorse legislation that protects wild parrots. I also commit to the well-being of their cousins in companion care, to ensure that every bird I encounter is getting the love, attention, and proper nutrition it needs to live a long and enriching life." > https://bit.ly/Pledge2parrots
World Parrot Day - May 31
Celebrate parrots on World Parrot Day!
World Parrot Day was started on May 31st, 2004 by the World Parrot Trust to highlight the issues parrots face due to the trade in wild-caught birds.
Zoos, charities and other organisations around the world get involved to mark the occasion. At the very first World Parrot Day, WPT handed in a petition calling for the European Union to ban the trade of wild birds in Europe, which officially came into being in 2007.
The World Parrot Trust (WPT) brings together global wildlife conservation and welfare specialists to direct and put into action effective programs to protect parrots. Visit the World Parrot Trustโs website or follow us on Facebook to learn more about current projects and how you can support efforts to protect parrots.
