What is healing and what does it mean to you?

For me, it means walking through challenges and getting through to the other side with growth. With a feeling of being able to breathe easier. That growth could be teeny tiny or massive. It honestly doesn’t matter which as long as I am in the motion of shifting and growing and healing when I need to (which is pretty regularly).

We can heal solo or we can heal together. Both have benefits but I do know that a lot of the techniques and skills of living that I have acquired in my toolbox I have gained from those that have walked before me and working with others.

My 4 month program focuses on healing in a beautiful and gentle way providing tools and skills that you will have in your toolbox.

When we say yes to something that helps us grow and become more enlightened, not only are we saying yes to us but we are saying yes to those around us and the world.

When I’m in my meh, I’m much more short tempered. I’m not my best self and those around me know and boy do they know!

When I am in motion forward, growing and learning and supported, I am a better version of me and filled with more light, more compassion for myself and others and overall just a nicer more pleasant human in this world.

So why not just say yes. My program was created to support people on their path of growth and transformation. And man oh man transformation is amazing.. and hard but AMAZING!

What happens when one of these is out of whack? How does it make you feel?

For me, if one is compromised, I have built a strong foundation for living. My HOUSE, my BEING is strong and yet when a storm comes, it rains upon me. The wind tears at my windows and my roof and sometimes when that storm affects multiple parts of my being, my roof has been torn off, my windows blown out. BUT, what has always remained, is my foundation.

Here in the LA area a lot of our houses are on raised foundations. So I envision these concrete blocks still standing after the storms. Back east where there are basements, I envision the basements remaining. In both scenarios, the house can be rebuilt, but the foundation remains. That core foundation is who I am and what helps me when that storm comes.

Body, Mind, Spirit & Health

This is why I help walk people through their cancer diagnosis, whether years ago or today, or any other life challenge, so we can make sure your foundation is a sold one and you don’t have to weather the storm alone.

On average it takes 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic. When I first started learning about gratitude, it took a lot. I had a piece a paper taped to my wall next to my bed to remind to say morning prayers and thanks you’s in the evening. This was the beginning of my gratitude practice. “Thank you for this day”.

Over time, I learned more and grew in what gratitude means to me and for many years I have lived in a place of gratitude. Even in my darkest of days, I hold gratitude close to my heart.

Today, I am grateful
I am grateful to be alive.
I am grateful to my body for not failing me, 💃🏻(even through physical, mental and spiritual sickness and challenges)
I am grateful for my family
I am grateful for my son. My miracle magical son 👩🏻‍🍼
I am grateful for the sky 🌅, the trees🌳, the air 🌬️we breathe in. For nature
I am grateful for the community around me
I am grateful for my animals 🐶 🐈

I could literally go on and on! You get the point. So today, what are you grateful for?

On July 13, 2019 I posted this photo and the below words. May 10th was the day I was diagnosed. On June 24th, I found out the baby I was carrying had passed away and on June 25th I was put under anesthesia to have him removed. July 9th I had my lumpectomy.

Today, I surfed at the beach this photo was taken at.. it’s a place I’ve experienced every emotion and it’s a place I call home. I am beyond grateful for the work I’ve done and my purpose here to help others walk through their journeys.

“My heart hurts. My spirit feels broken. This is the first time through this process I truly feel like giving up. Like running as fast as I can to get away. The war raged on my body that I no longer want to be a part of. The war raging in my heart that I shouldn’t have to be feeling. **KCANCER **KGRIEF. I am ANGRY. My heart HURTS. I want to run far away but this war is happening inside of ME and I cannot escape it. The sun shines, breeze on my face... for seconds.. mere seconds I feel ok.”

I’d be on the phone with my best friend or my sister and be like, “This just doesn’t make sense! Does this make sense to you?” And we would both go “NOOOOO. Is this real?”

Those first days I was paralyzed. I didn’t have words. I just kept walking and had to make decisions about my future in a blink of an eye. But I kept walking. I am someone that thrives on routine so I kept my routine. I kept working out. I kept surfing. I kept moving but there were tears. There was uncertainty and fear and then at some point I knew I’d be in a better place on the other side- whatever that side was.

I have a tattoo on my back that I got when I was early in my recovery and it says

“Strength, Courage, Struggle”

Over the years people have asked why would I tattoo “struggle” on me? For me, without struggle where does strength and courage come from.

When I saw this Rumi quote, “The cure for pain is in the pain” it resonated in the same way.

⭐️How do we grow? When do we grow? What creates opportunities for growth? Are these opportunities that can lead us to the other side when we’re through the challenge?

These are all question I’ve walked through and help people navigate on their cancer and medical journeys.

Let’s talk self-care for a minute. What does self-care look like for you? What are your daily needs, weekly needs and monthly self-care needs?

As a sober women in recovery, my self-care needs are high to have the grace to walk kindly and with grace in this world.

SO what is self-care? Things that warm your heart? Things that fill your cup?

For me

✔️Morning time with my son
✔️Movement. In the past this was lifting weights. Today it looks more like stretching, on the ground
✔️Nature. Being outside. Some days this is just a walk around the block. other days it’s a hike into the trees.
✔️Surfing. Oh surfing, this is my thing. The thing that calms my Aries fire
✔️Breathwork. This allows me to visit the past and release
✔️Reiki. This allows me to move energy through my body and move stuck yuck!
✔️Socializing. I am an extrovert and because of that, my soul needs outward connections with others to fill my cup
✔️TV. I grew up with tv and although I’m not fond of getting sucked into a long series, it is my break from the world after my son falls asleep some nights

This is part of my passion. The BODY!

Thermodynamics. Seriously think about it. All energy comes from the sun. Plants then grow from the sun and convert the suns energy into food. Animals (including us) are nourished by plants and this energy which allows cellular and mechanical functioning. Then this cycle continues and continues.

Life is truly AMAZING! One of the reasons I feel in love with nursing and how the body works. Literally our heart is beating, our lungs are working, impulses are being sent nonstop and we have no control over it. Truly a sublime wonder of the world.

As a young girl I didn’t know what I was feeling in my hands. But I knew it was there.

As I got older I was introduced to a teacher at Temple that taught us about the energy in our hands. That if we rubbed them together we would generate heat and that we could use that to do non touch healing. That made sense to me.

Many many years later, I became a nurse and used my hands in providing nursing care to all my patients. That made sense to me.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, a friend did distance reiki daily for me and weekly we would meet in person. There are no words for the gratitude I have for what he did for me and how he helped me move the energy and anesthesia (6 surgeries during that time) out of my body.

I found what I had been feeling since I was a little girl. I found that one of my connections with the world, spirit, energy is Reiki. When the word Reiki is said my hands activate. This gift was given to me to share with the world and I am just the messenger.

My coaching program focuses on healing and shifting through assignments, Reiki, Breathwork and so much more. Sharing this gift is one of the many things I was out here to do ❤️🌀🙌🏼

3 Wellness Tips

1. Mindfulness- for real just take a minute to breathe and look at the way the leaves move on a tree or hold a pen in your hand and feel all the different grooves on it. Do it for ONE full minute. Set the timer on your phone or Alexa.

2. Self care- figure that s**t out! We NEED it so badly! What does self care look like for you. It could be simple. It couple be more complex. I love to surf. I also love spending time with my son so this weeks self care actually looked like taking him out on a surfboard into the ocean and just being together. Pure freaking heaven!

3. Tech Free Evening- I dare you to try it. Turn your ringer off. Put it in the other room and enjoy your time with those around you or if you live alone, heavenly time to just be. Make it a book night. A dance party after dinner in your living room. Do some movement and stretching. But no phones, tv or electronics. Back to basics.

5 Things to Thrive
Drink half of your body weight in ounces of water each day.

This one is golden. Hydration hydration hydration without over hydration cause then you’ll shift your electrolytes in not a positive way. Look at your skin. How does it feel? Is your mouth dry? Are you working out and getting super sweaty? Then your needs may be higher.

The old rule of 8- 8oz glasses is long gone and really 1/2 your body weight in ounces may not be ideal either

* For men, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends a total of 13 cups (about 3 liters) of fluid each day.
* For women, they suggest 9 cups (a little over 2 liters) of fluid each day. Pregnant women should drink about 10 cups of water daily. Those who breastfeed need about 12 cups.

When I was training for a weightlifting competition, I drank a gallon (128 oz of water a day). When I was pregnant the same with my first 32 oz with electrolytes added but as soon as I had my son, 64 oz has been golden for the most part.

Listen to your body. What is your intake needs?

Mirror work.. what does that mean. It means, look yourself in the eyes and pick one of these that you least believe in and say it 10 times. And do it everyday until you believe it.

Mirror work is not easy. I've cried more times than I can count saying positive affirmations in the mirror. It's hard. It's the opposite of what we usually do with negative self talk. This builds us up. This helps us believe in ourselves. Mirror work creates shifts in who we are.

5 Things To Thrive
Workout for 30 minutes a day. But the question is, is that reasonable for your lifestyle?

What does working out mean to you?

In your mind do you envision lifting weights or do you envision a walk around the block looking at the trees and smelling the fall air floating in?

30 mins is a lot of time in what could be a very long day.

So instead let’s talk movement. Can you MOVE your body during the day? Can you stretch before getting out of bed? Can you reach down, take a breath and touch your toes after going to the bathroom and reach up to the sky? Maybe a Sun salutation or two throughout the day? Or do you love to throw weight around? Can you get some functional movement in? What’s that? Just ask :)

Does the idea of getting up early make you want to slam my face into the ground? Or does it make you smile a little? Do you go to bed at 9pm and waking up at 5am to have those peaceful quite mornings to get movement and meditation before the day begins your idea of fun or does the quite of the night watching tv after the kids go to bed feel warm and fuzzy? Is 15 mins early not as overwhelming?

This is how I coach. It’s not a one answer solution. It’s working with you to discover what your actual needs are and how I can best support you on your journey of wellness. We do not need to face ANYTHING alone. True Holistic care- MIND, BODY, SPIRIT & HEALTH

Never give up… We’ve all experienced challenges in life. They can destroy us. They can catapult us forward into a whirlwind of feelings. They can shift us and throw us on the ground or lift us up and remind us that the universe has us. That we can walk through life and chose each day and how we walk.

I’m a story teller. Big time. I’ll tell you all about my tragedies, hardships and a little about my wins. I’ll tell you about homelessness and he**in addiction. I’ll tell you about building a life from nothing. About the insanity of nursing school. I can tell you about a grief so deep that it forever shifted who I am. About building and creating programs for unhoused frequent utilizers of emergency services, that to this day I am beyond proud of. I can tell you about the joys of finding out I was pregnant and then the devastation a week later that I had breast cancer. I could tell you what the last 4 years has been like and I can tell you that my life is amazing and has been AMAZING through all of it. Some of those amazing days and weeks though, were so hard to see or feel.

I have done the work to walk through life. I have worked in mental health services and taken part in the same. I have connected to past lives, I have done deep meditations and carried and held little Marrisa with forgiveness. I have done Breathwork and Reiki and had spiritual experiences. I have sat through my own medical appointments, have advocate for myself and countless other people. I have walked with them guiding them in their health journey. Now, as a Holistic Wellness Coach I can combine ALL of my skills to guide you or someone you know.
