LVW BOT ELECTION BALLOTS ARE OUT! This is your chance to have YOUR voice heard and to participate directly in the decision-making process. Please make sure to vote!

20/07/2023

A THOUGHT: Those of you who know me (or who have taken the time to get to know me) know that I care deeply about everyone in the Village: supporters and detractors alike. That is one reason why I’m a candidate for the BOT. We may agree or disagree, have diverse backgrounds, and approach things differently – all of which is fine. But it's also important to remember that, when all is said and done, we are neighbors and fellow residents, and as a result, each one of us is an important part of the large “quilt” that makes up this Village. To that end, I ask ALL SIDES going forward to make a concerted effort to keep our interactions, especially on social media, positive and constructive, to avoid the perpetuation of rumor, false information, and propaganda, and to generally “turn down the volume.” If you want to respond to a negative post, feel free to do so, but please be polite, issue-focused, and open minded. This way, we really will make a difference!

The LVW Italian American Club's Karaoke night was a big hit! We had a blast singing and dancing to the tunes, and I even sang one myself. It was great to meet some new friends and spend time with our wonderful residents! https://fb.watch/li_O-hdCwv/?mibextid=Nif5oz

It has come to my attention that there is a rumor floating around that, presumably because I am Jewish and have a Jewish education (at least, in part), I am pushing to bring Hasidic Jews into LVW. I'm not sure who started this rumor, but it is PATENTLY ANTISEMITIC AND FALSE, and a SORRY ATTEMPT TO SPREAD MISINFORMATION, FEAR, and to DELEGITIMIZE ME. Having said that, it does not surprise me that some people in the village would peddle such propaganda. The silver lining to this is that I believe that the vast majority of our wonderful residents are too intelligent to believe this garbage. Also, if the opposition needs to resort to such tactics, they are truly concerned I may win and don't have anything with any substance against me. In any event, I call on all rational people in the village to condemn this rumor in the strongest possible terms.

18/06/2023

My candidacy is focused on YOU! I want to hear your concerns, comments, ideas, and suggestions about the issues in our village YOU consider important and that need to be addressed. YOU MATTER, so please take a moment to share your thoughts by posting a comment. Your participation will help make a difference!

Come out and join me at the Bocce Club picnic outside the Encore clubhouse! No tickets required unless you want food. Great music, great weather, and a great opportunity to spend quality time with family, friends, neighbors, and fellow residents!

I had a great time appearing as a guest panelist on last Tuesday's episode of Ricardo Garcia's We Are One "The Round Table". I offered my perspective on several interesting topics and the audience participation was fabulous! The bagels were great, too! Thanks to Ricardo, Yolanda, the panelists, and the audience, all of whom made the experience special.

ABOUT ME - FOCUSED ON YOU!

I’m Ivan Gilbert and I'm excited to run for a position on LVW’s Board of Trustees!

For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve lived in our outstanding village for the past 4 years, together with my wife, Bella. We are active in LVW’s clubs and activities. We dance (or try to!) at the monthly LVW Dance Club events, and frequently attend events at the Italian American Social Club, Irish American Club, Jewish American Club, and the Friends of Latin America Group. We also enjoy playing dominos every Wednesday. Additionally, I served as a member on LVW’s ad hoc Technology committee.

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Talmud (Jewish Law) from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (Conservative) and a Juris Doctor degree from Concord Law School. I've also attended Columbia University of the City of New York where I majored in History, and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

My career has centered on serving others. I'm an attorney and have served previously as a paralegal and an educator. I've also founded and led several companies, served on the boards of several distinguished charitable organizations, conducted educational seminars throughout the world, frequently served as a guest judge at an annual Moot Court competition hosted by New York University, and as a guest speaker at law schools and businesses throughout the United States. Throughout my career, I've held leadership roles in which I've learned to listen to, and interact with, varied audiences including partners, shareholders, contractors, vendors, students, governmental personnel, and legislators. During these interactions, I was able to help others, experience and consider multiple points of view, and to foster consensus through negotiation and compromise.

As much as I love and cherish our beautiful community, I, like many of my fellow residents, believe that during the last 2 years the BOT has taken us in the wrong direction. Consequently, I believe we need new leadership, with trustees who have the courage, temerity, and fortitude to promote new, fresh, innovative ideas that benefit all who live here. I also believe that because the current BOT is rarely responsive to our concerns, many of us feel we don’t have a voice.

I’M DIFFERENT. I’m not like most of the current trustees. I’m also not a BOT "clone" who will continue to maintain the status quo. I’m running as an outsider who can facilitate the change we need, and as a friend who isn’t afraid to buck conformity when necessary, advocate for our residents, and ensure that our voices are heard. I seek to return fiscal responsibility, transparency, and integrity to the BOT, and substantially change how our community is governed and its interaction with its members. In short, I want to put the focus back on YOU.

That’s why I’ll be proud to pursue the following goals if elected:

• Improving and maintaining our infrastructure and amenities.
• Preserving our personal financial assets by creating an exception to the by-laws’ condominium unit Title Transfer Fee (currently $2,150) for residents who transfer ownership of their unit to an irrevocable trust and then continue to reside in the unit.
• Creating a mechanism to monitor contracts to prevent abusive practices, conflicts of interest, and to ensure that any work performed is safe, necessary, satisfactory, and within budgetary parameters.
• Instituting an asset management and control system to track asset usage and location, increase longevity, enhance security, and eliminate waste.
• Designating an independent Compliance Officer to establish an internal compliance program onsite, and monitor and enforce both internal policies and procedures, as well as compliance with federal and state laws, on a routine basis.
• Performing a top-to-bottom review of how the BOT "conducts business" vis-a-vis its members, including processes, procedures, governing documents, and management culture.
• Resisting the status quo, when necessary, by engaging in spirited debate and providing opposing views and alternative perspectives.
• Focusing on YOU by honestly and sincerely listening to you, taking your suggestions, concerns, ideas, and criticisms to heart, and keeping an open mind.

LET'S MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Apparently, the title transfer fee I referenced in my flyer/website increased from $1,850 to $2,150 last year! I revised both, so if you have an old flyer, please disregard. That said, how much the more so should the BOT create an exception!
