5. Pack a picnic and head out to enjoy a Splash Pad at a local playground (Fort Collins had three!)
6. Make a date for Union Bar & Soda Fountain for a boozy adult ice cream treat
7. Hit the air conditioning and have fun exploring at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery
8. Take a dip and ride the slides at the Fort Collins City Pool
9. Eat ice cream at an institution like Walrus or enjoy a special ice pop at Revolution Artisan Pops

Are you taking some time this Memorial weekend to pay respects to those who died serving our country? In Fort Collins, the Veterans Plaza at Spring Canyon Park has special activities throughout the weekend, and below is a link to more events for the whole family:

* Walk among 500 flags and medallions honoring specific fallen soldiers.
* Attend the Rotary fundraising breakfast.
* Visit the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall.
* Listen to a reading of the 58,318 names of American servicemen and women who died. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, Friday through Monday.
* Each evening, there will be a prayer with honor/color guard, 21-gun salute, piper and Taps.
* Sunday - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Veteran-serving organizations will have booths open; helicopter display; food vendors
* Sunday - Noon to 1:15 p.m.: A program including: presentation of colors; "The Star-Spangled Banner"; prayer; missing man table; local KIA; flyover; soils ceremony; and keynote speaker Tony Seahorn.
* Monday - 9 a.m.: Inaugural Memorial Day 4.5 km RUCK (weighted backpack walk) in Twin Silos Park.

This Veteran's Day, we honor with gratitude military veterans like local resident Mr. Darrell Annis, who bravely sacrificed to defend freedom and protect our country.

Darrell, a navy veteran, received life-changing care through the Donated Dental Services program that Alpine Dental Health is grateful to be a part of. Giving back to Northern Colorado is one of our core values, and this program offers donated care to those who have a permanent disability, are elderly, or medically at risk.

Our own Dr. Mesa Roth and Dr. Todd Rosenzweig were part of a wonderful local team that provided Darrell the extensive treatment he needed to help get his quality of life back.
