Jessie Makes Pretty

This is how I began my love of embroidery 12 months ago. Julie over at Clever Poppy is running a free online embroidery workshop series. All you do is sign up and she will send you the pattern and a clear list of the equipment you need. Then you can watch and take part in the 5x 1hr lessons. Due to time difference (she is in NZ) I didn’t do many of the sessions live but I stitched along to each and by the end of the workshop I had my first hoop finished and had learnt quite a few stitches and techniques. I can’t recommend it enough and as I mentioned, it is FREE!

There would be no Jessie Makes pretty without all the amazing books I listen to along the way. Before kids I would sit and read any chance I got, now those chances are few and far between so instead of reading I now listen and I absolutely LOVE IT. Somehow I have managed to get through 54 books this year (plus I did re listen to a few others as well), which is 5 up on last years list. For every dress I sew myself, polymer clay earrings, embroidery, scrunchie, dolls outfit, first birthday dress, felt Christmas tree and everything else I make, know that I am in my element of creating and living alongside in a story world. Thankyou to for such an amazing library and to all of my favourite authors this year for their new and old books!

‘Not my gumdrop buttons!’

Anyone else starting to get the Christmas bits and bobs out? We have just made a batch of baking soda/cornflour clay create some ornaments - I am in my element whilst equally painfully/slowly accepting I much relinquish creative control to the kids 😜🎄 (I may need to make another batch just for myself tonight…. Kidding… not kidding!).

This handy little ribbon loop tag makes it super easy to hang my felt Christmas trees off of a removable 3M/Command Hook.

Other ways my customers have hung my felt Christmas Trees:

When sewing the last two skirts I couldn’t help myself but sew some matching scrunchies and coordinating earring.

Isn’t this from simply divine? In a slightly longer midi length this soft draping material came together beautifully.

This gorgeous midi length skirt was part of a custom order I put together for a repeat customer. Two of my favourite things, people letting me know how I can help them and getting to work with people more than once!

Miss Six reminding me that you are never too old to play with my felt Christmas Trees. What was meant to be a very quick product shoot become a big job for her to help me with and she took to the challenge like a duck to water. Getting her to stop playing was a slightly different matter 😋.

2019 - My first felt Christmas tree 🎄, Miss 6 was ‘Miss 3’ and Miss 4 was ‘Little Miss 1’.

Whilst my trees may have a slightly different colour scheme and made that little bit better, their overal ability to be great fun to play with and look cute has remained the same. I may not have toddlers anymore but I can assure you, both my school girls are keen for me to get theirs out again this year.

Boy mums want a bit of matchy matchy as much as the mothers of girls. Happy to be of help ☺️.

No job is too big, no pup is too small!

This custom order was THE BEST FUN. Mr H was turning 2 and is Paw Patrol obsessed. My own Miss 4 and I hit the shops and with lots of chats with the little guys mum I came up with this design. I drew the H in the same font style as the show and hand embroidered it, then made it into the front chest pocket on these fun hand sewn overalls.

As I’m sure you are aware, I love when people ask me to make them something special! Swipe ➡️ to see the print on a customers gorgeous dress. She asked me to make her earrings to wear with it. Naturally I got a little carried away and made lots! The third pair have sold but the first two are still available on my Etsy page! 🔆

Just a little shop update. I have temporarily taken down all custom made items from Etsy whilst I work through the amazing orders I currently have. It is always a tricky line to walk that allows me to have a wonderful time being creative but most importantly, spend time with these two crazies ❤️.
