A little Social comp that took place the past weekend (11/02/2023) at a local private farm dam. Only 8 boats were allowed and I decided to fish this one solo!

6th Sense Provoke Jerkbait proved to be very productive in the morning that even a really decent size kurper felt the need to have a taste!

I managed to get quite a few decent sized fish but nothing over 1.5kg. It is however a lot of fun catching fish over 500g most the day! The real d***s were few and if I remember correctly I only caught two under 500g for the day. This makes for some exciting fishing!

I walked away with the prize for biggest fish of the day and missed biggest bag with a mere 30 odd grams taking 2nd heaviest bag for the day!

Good day out fishing as always!

Random pics since I havenā€™t been too active on posting here!

-My 1.5kg primkop bass after a really slow days fishing she showed herself

-A little comp held at ngodwana dam in December to help cull and condition the dam

-Late night sessions where our lights came in handy for the first time šŸ¤£šŸ˜…

-Damianā€™s first cast of the day slab in primkop

Just random pics at random locations at random times!

Iā€™ve been really really favouring the rainy and overcast days lately than going out in blistering heat when fish are simply just on a super slow bite!

Managed to pull this slab today on a quick morning session out to longmere/Pinelake. I had just finished rigging my Okuma recon and 12lbs Seaguar fluro with a pegged Texas weight and Damiki Leach in watermelon gold, as I stood up I noticed some fish on the finder and casted right behind meā€¦BOOOOOOM this slabber took it! What a rewarding fish for the first fish of the day. Super stoked šŸ˜®šŸ˜®šŸ˜®šŸ« šŸ« šŸ«

Managed to pull quite a few fish for the rest of the day however nothing as stunning as this beauty!

So this past weekend attended the final round of the LLS Series (Lowveld Largemouth Series) held at Driekoppies dam 29/10/2022. This was our ā€˜firstā€™ competition attendance on the newly remade boatā€¦

We were greeted with some overcast weather in the morning with the sun popping itā€™s head out every now and againā€¦we were also greeted with some fairly strong winds and rough water at the launch. Nothing the Rebel 440 couldnt handle though and cut through some of the rough chop like a champ. šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

We wanted to start our morning with a quick few casts at the dam wall as I had some success there the last time and with the wind blowing towards the wall my thinking is it may have worked in our favor, however as we arrived and came to a halt, the chop was so rough I didnā€™t see the ā€˜funā€™ in being thrown around and trying to navigate the boat in strong winds with the trolling motor, so we made the call to make a stop at a nearby bay with some slightly calmer water and a lot of different structure in the area. We spent about 1hr around the area where I missed one fish on a H***y Toad throwing top water, didnā€™t seem like a massive fish or loss anyway so wasnā€™t too bummed about it, we soon after made the call to go check the river section and try our luck there.

After the approximate 10km, slightly rough run up to the river we arrived with more calmer water, less wind but very dirty and stained river section. I managed to boat about three or four fish of small size around the river area-not what we are used to fishing this side of the dam, usually itā€™s quite active and find ourselves throwing out many d***s as we goā€¦so we met up with Mario on our way out as he was on his way in, after sharing our disappointment on not having much success we made a run back down close to the start launch where he suggested we go try the bridge area. It was not long after arriving here that my boat partner Clayton South managed to hook onto his first fish of the day and also the biggest for us for the day so far, he hooked onto the fish using a Texas rigged watermelon red super fluke. This was a great relief as we started to hook onto some more fish shortly after we figured out more or less where and how they were sitting and taking. We decided to go weigh the bigger fish as it started turning shortly after being caught, this guy only weighed in just shy of 1kg, but atleast put us 1kg up in our bag.

We managed to cull some of the earlier d***s and upsize them with slightly bigger sizes fishing the same area after the quick weigh in. We didnā€™t manage to get much fish bigger in size and was just not our day for those monster fish.

We managed to finish the day with a bag weight of 2.400kg and missing the Top 10 by one position with a final result of 11th place for the day.

We want to wish all the anglers that qualified for the LLS FINALS being held at Vygeboom Dam the best of luck with this two day event. Unfortunately due to not fishing 6 events Team Mullet did not qualify to fish the finals due to also being busy with the boat renovation during the time. We hope everyone attending the finals have an awesome time on the water and that HUGE bags get weighed for every team making it a close and competitive weekend of fishing!

Second outing on the newly renovated boat this past weekend. The fish were on fire šŸ”„ at primkop dam on Sundayā€¦no big fish unfortunately however many many fun sizes were caught!

Boat is running great, testing a 4 blade prop currently borrowed from a friend which has had some great results so far. Still need some tuning etc to get her where I wantā€¦

Next project to start sometime soon are the seat/backrest/deck extension at the rear. The idea is to have a multifunctional seat, that serves as a seat obviously, then the backrest serves as an extra rearward deck extension when folded downā€¦this requires some trial and error custom hinges that can fold up/down as well as the seat surface needs to fold up to access the below seat storage hatches, I think I have an idea just need to make it happen.

Also part project is to get the ā€˜cubbyā€™ hatch at the consoles door made up and fittedā€¦quick and easy/simple project to complete though.

Will keep page updated on any other progressā€¦

The last of the project picsā€¦from when I started sticking and completing the carpet, getting the sticker wrap sides done then on to building a new trailer and finally Sundays first outing!

Itā€™s been a journey but well worth the reward! As mentioned we are Ready but not DONE.

Photos from Team Mullet Bass Fishing's post 10/10/2022

What we do when the boat is outā€¦we catch a few fish and test the livewell! Success!!!

Looking forward to the one or two last comps of the year we can still take part in!

Readyā€¦BUTā€¦not DONEā€¦couldnā€™t resist and had to take the Team Mullet Bass Fishing newly rebuilt, refurbished, remade, repainted, renovated or whatever you wana call it out for its maiden voyage in its new outfit.

This is where we atā€¦still a few things on the list to tick off before we call her ā€˜doneā€™ā€¦

Still to doā€¦

-New seats with backrests to fold down and create extra rearward deck space

-Console ā€˜cubbyā€™ holder door

-Small finishes and touches here and there

-Complete new trailer with some modifications etc.

-Possiby still search for a larger 90-115hp motor.

All in all itā€™s been a helluva journey, a lot of work all done by myself to get where it is today.

Iā€™d like to thank a few special people;

-My WIFE firstly for enduring all the dust, sanding, dust and sanding the entire duration of this project. The constant flow coat fumes amd all sorts of smells to do with boat workā€¦For understanding what it means to me to have a boat complete than incomplete. For enduring all my hours spent outside working on the boat when I should have been spending time with the family.

-Pohls Panelbeaters and BENNIE, for the use of their spray booth for a few hours one Wednesday evening to paint the boat, and Bennie for staying away from home late to spray my boat! Thanks a mil!

-Clayton Southā€¦for the contribution towards the sticker wrap around the sides, Thanks a mil brother! You always have first option on fishing trips as you know šŸ¤ŸšŸ»šŸ¤ŸšŸ»

-Mike Bando for the amazing sticker work! Love it šŸ‘ŒšŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»

-My father for letting me use his workshop and people to help weld and complete my trailer I decided to build unexpectedly and at last minuteā€¦I built the frame and got it all together myself and they finished all the rest of welding and cutting/painting work.

-ARS Solutions for supply of mostly all my fiber fillers, sanding papers, body filler etc etc and all the good advice and suggestions when the project started.

-Ocean Marine, once again for the advice and or supply of whatever I needed at times, from the new Boyency pour foam to as small as new hatch hinges. Soon to sort out some motor issues from the refit and a serviceā€¦highly suggest using them for any of your boating or supply needs!

Iā€™ll update later with more pics from the project to where it is nowā€¦

No video edit this time, however an update since the last one almost two months agoā€¦the has not stopped. We are well on our way to assemblyā€¦boat has since been flippen, painted, sanded and polished. All wiring, plumbing, pumps and switches are complete. Boat top side been painted and carpets are slowly but surely being fitted every evening for a few hours some work gets put in.

This has been such a time consuming and, at times, frustrating project. Iā€™ve done every single thing myself, with no outside help whatsoever. The sanding, painting, sanding, painting process really got to me at some points as it felt like it would never end, nonetheless weā€™re here and itā€™s coming along beautifully.

Most fun part of the entire project has been the time after the final painting was done-the assembly. I can spend hours and hours just putting things together, bolting and drilling holes, sticking carpet and Aquadeck flooring, wiring, wiring and wiring. Thatā€™s been the most fun so far.

Whatā€™s still needed to complete-the rest of carpet, Aquadeck on the console floor, sticker wrap around the sides with my own custom design and then FINALLY to slightly lift the hull off the trailer to get the trailer work completed and painted, then final stage would be to mount the motor and go maiden this bad boy! Time is getting close!

Plan is to be ready in the next week or two and to be fishing the LLS Series held at Injaka dam on the 24th of August.

Exciting times ahead!

So the MulletMakeover has begun! Started project on the 16th June 2022ā€¦didnā€™t work on the boat for about a week from the 26th. This has been the progress to date.

So far Iā€™ve;

-Stripped all hatches and carpet

-Removed old floor and all Boyency foam

-Closed up pretty much all old trolling motors holes, hinge holes, finder holes and all general un-needed openings

-Sanding, sanding and more sandingā€¦cleaned up the deck and lightly surfaced with some fiber filler to ā€˜renewā€™ the surface slightly and give it a good surface for some flo coat to stick

-Extra drainages to bilge area so foam wonā€™t get waterlogged in the future

-New foam and new console floor, glassed 3 layers amd flo coated

The idea was to get all topside and deck work done so we can start prepping for the real makeoverā€¦the paint job!!!! Stay tuned for the next part of the project coming up!

So another Lowveld Laregemouth Event success! Yesterday 19 teams battled it out at Driekoppies Dam for the 5th round of the LLS Series. It proved to be a tough day with the larger fish being a bit scarce but plenty of smaller fish coming out to play!

Our day started off pretty good, with our biggest fish coming out early in the morning near the dam wall. We made the call to quickly weigh the fish before making the 10km run up to the river and avoid the risk of losing or our fish turning in the Livewell with a long day still ahead. Our fish weighed in just shy of 1.100kg at a weight a 1.080kg.

The day went on well, with plenty of smaller fish being hooked, many fish lost aswell. We found ourselves culling some d***s often to only keep the Livewell filled with ā€˜keepersā€™ for our day, in the hopes to still catch a few bigger fish.

I want to thank my boat partner for the day-Constant Frustenburg. It was a pleasure having you on the boat with me keeping the line wet at all times and not giving up once!

We ended the day with a 7th place finish and our first top 10 for this series event! Was as always, good to be on the water and catching fish!

Lines cast for the Lowveld Social Series | Lowvelder The monthly Lowveld Social Series Bass Fishing Competition for the 2022 season took place on Sunday May 8 at Klipkopje Dam between White River and Hazyview.

Photos from Team Mullet Bass Fishing's post 11/05/2022

Sooooooā€¦itā€™s been a while. Team Mullet sat out two rounds of competitive fishing (LLS-Kwena as well as LBT-Arabie) BUT we got to fish the Lowveld Social Series at klipkoppie dam this past weekend.

A field of 11 teams attended the day, due to it falling on motherā€™s day, I think most teams played it safe at home while the others battled it out on the water to find those green monsters.

This weekends Social comp was no easy one, the fish were scarce and everyone battled to land those kickers. I had a really positive start with a first cast first fish (a d**k) but a positive start to get the hopes upā€¦soon after to be CRUSHED with absolutely no bite up until just after 12pm. We went searching deep, grass line edges, rocks, drop offs etc etc with absolutely no luck whatsoever.

We managed to find some fish activity very VERY shallow in less than 1m of water, I did what I had to do to try atleast make a 5 fish bag (even just d***s)ā€¦and still only made a 4 fish bag for the day due to losing the 5th fish. Total bag weight of a mere 0.440grams for the day-embarrassing to say the least šŸ˜…šŸ™ˆšŸ¤£

Winning bag of just over 0.800grams with only two fish and biggest fish just over 0.700grams. Second and third place bag weights in the 0.600gramsā€¦so clearly a very tough day for everyone!

I fished this event solo, however my boat parter was Alexa the Pitty and she sure stayed patient the whole day on the boat with meā€¦such a lovely pooch!

Until the next one!

FishTec Lowrance definitely the game changer for lowrance owners!

Photos from Social Series's post 31/03/2022

The most fun you can have competing and by FAR our favorite series is the Lowveld social series. This, no-so-serious fun competition is all about growing the sport.

Team Mullet used the opportunity to fish the social as a pre-fish for the following weekends LLS competition.

Team Mullet lost an absolute MONSTER fish which could have put us right up top for heaviest bag as well as heaviest fish-no use crying over spilt milkā€¦

We ended the day with a humble 7th position.

Team Mullet is a bass fishing team consisting of one main angler Shaun Haasbroek and stand in partner for different events, our main focus is to concentrate on three main fishing leagues namely;

-LSS (Lowveld Social Series)
-LLS (Lowveld Largemouth Series)
-LBT (Lowveld Bass Trial)

Stand in partners for different events and competitions will vary but will be;

-Clayton South

We will be competing in the above series events and our goal is to complete our first full year of competitive fishing in 2022.

We hope to achieve some goals set out for ourselves by the end of 2022 and to atleast make some top 10 finishes in some major events.

We like to see ourselves as the ā€˜new kid on the blockā€™ or ā€˜underdogsā€™ that surprise the field of even the most experienced anglersā€¦
