Malayan tigers play a vital role in keeping the ecosystem in check, that’s why it’s so important to help them! One of the simple ways that you can do to help save the tigers are by being aware & spreading awareness about what’s happening to them. There are also few organisations out there that are working hard to help them such as WWF & Save The Malayan Tiger in Pahang. Clays that crumble can be so frustrating to work with because it takes extra time & effort to soften it. It’s important to ensure that the clay is soften properly before working on it so that it’ll not break once baked. Usually to soften crumbly clay, I’d chop the clay in smaller pieces to roll them out flat easily. Once all the pieces have been flatten, I’ll group them up in a chunk & pour liquid clay on it before mixing them up. I use bare hands for this step to allow the heat from my hand soften the clay faster. I’ll knead until the clay can be formed into a ball. The last step would be to flatten it out with a roller or a pasta machine. The clay is ready to work with once it doesn’t tear when folded & is flexible. To my polymer clay crafter friends out there, if you don’t have access to liquid clay, vaseline or hair/baby oil is a great substitute to get the job done. As promised, this is the final result of the Knobbed Hornbill earrings I was telling you guys about in last week’s post. Took me around a week to get the shape & colour the way I vision it. I was so happy when it turned out so cute!!!

Do you know that Sarawak is known as the Land of the Hornbills / Bumi Kenyalang?

The locals here call it kenyalang & it is believed to be the spirit of God among the indigenous Dayak community here, that is why this bird is so special among the locals here. People here also say that if the bird flies over your house, it’s considered good luck. Well, who knows maybe wearing these earrings could also bring good luck 🤭😂 hahaha!

Unfortunately, this bird is also at risk of becoming endangered due to a number of threats caused by human activities, like deforestation. Conservation and environmental awareness is very important so that we’ll still have our forest & beautiful hornbills around for future generations to witness how majestic they are.

Hello beautiful people. If you’ve been supporting TONKA since day 1, you’ll recognise this photo & know that I first started my business selling up-cycled scrunchies & this is one of it. This particular scrunchie was released with my very first polymer clay earrings collection “I Want Candy” ♥️

Sadly last night, my old business account was hacked by someone who pretended to be a customer & it hurts me that I’m still not able to get it back. If I can’t ever get it back I hope Instagram will take it down if there’s many of you reporting it. Much appreciated to those of you who are helping me reporting the account 🥺. That account has been with me since the start of TONKA in 2020 & it breaks my heart that this happened. It was a traumatic experience for me & I hope no other small businesses like me have to go through what I went through, especially the ones I personally know. Please be extra careful when dealing with anyone through DMs. Despite all that, if you are one of my loyal supporters & is reading this now. Thank you so much for all the support that has been given, thank you for supporting my dream. You all are amazing! If you want to keep on supporting feel free to follow this account & we’ll start fresh together.

For the time being, TONKA will not be taking any orders. I’ve decided to disable the website & make a new page until i’m confident that everything is more secure. I’ll do my best to get back on my feet ASAP.

Good news is that, you can still get our products through .pakat. I’ll be sending most of my ready stock designs to them while I rebuild my brand on this new account.
