Two Easily Remembered Questions That Silence Negative Thoughts | Anthony Metivier | TEDxDocklands
This is an interesting TEDx talk! Thinking about thinking 😊 Meta-cognition! When you're having "thoughts" ask yourself two simple questions:
- Are these thoughts useful?
- How do they [the thoughts] behave?
The order doesn't matter much but it's a great and simple way to stop the cascade if something comes up. You can see more about it at this link here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvtYjdriSpM
My own strategy for stopping/slowing down all the negative thoughts/assumptions that I make is to ask "Is that really true?" and "How do I know that?". I tend to mind read, predict the future, and catastrophize things so they've been super useful to me!
What questions would work best for you and your thoughts?

Our Deepest Fear
By Marianne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us;
It's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we're liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
Gentle reminder that it's okay to take a break from social media if it's causing you anxiety. It's okay to take time for yourself so you can breathe and refocus and recentre yourself. Take care of yourself how you need.
There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbours came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said sympathetically. "May be," the farmer replied.
The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbours exclaimed. "May be," replied the old man.
The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbours again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "May be," answered the farmer.
The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbours congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. "May be," said the farmer.
