YEP Afterschool

Hayward Unified YEP is organizing a series of parent informational meetings ahead of enrollment. These sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, March 19, 2024, via webinar, Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in person, and Tuesday, May 7, 2024, via webinar.

Each meeting will address critical topics, including the YEP enrollment system, the YEP waitlist, and the CDE expanded learning grants.

It is important for families to attend a session to hear program updates.

This week is Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week April 24-28 and it’s the perfect time to recognize, appreciate, and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours.

Cherryland Summer YEP students are up moving around, and expanding their dance skills with Beatbox! Dancing is a way to let children express themselves, and have fun, while also building confidence out on the dance floor and beyond.

Students in Glassbrook Summer YEP are excited to learn STEAM! The proud look on student's faces when they are able to complete a task is inspiring, and the valuable skills they are learning are an integral part of building their self-esteem.

Students at Glassbrook Summer YEP are learning new mindfulness practices everyday to help them learn how to relax, and center themselves through fun art activities. Students are pictured with their beautiful rainbows that they used as a guide during a rainbow breathing meditation.

Thanks to a generous grant awarded to the Hayward Unified School District's Youth Enrichment Program at Fairview students are able to take the classroom outside! Students explore new concepts while listening to perfectly crafted kid-friendly podcasts and engaging in discussion with their peers.

YEP Students give a thumbs up to learning how to make their own fresh-squeezed juice today, made from tangerines they squeezed themselves.

Did you know that playing games together at recess not only helps build students physical capabilities, it also helps students build social emotional learning skills by playing together and having good sportsmanship? 🏀

Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and the severe staffing shortage we are experiencing, the Hayward Unified School District will transition all schools to virtual learning from Monday, January 10 to Friday, January 14.

YEP will launch our YEP at Home program starting Tuesday, January 11, 2022. The program will focus on two components Asynchronous work support and Live-Zoom sessions for enrichment.

Pre-enrollment for Spring 2021 Bridge to College is now open to middle school HUSD students! Pre-enroll today to save a spot for one of the courses that will be offered. Bridge to College is the only program in California - and possibly, the nation - designed to provide college & career exploration to HUSD students beginning in the 7th grade through 12th grade. In partnership with Chabot College, instructors provide courses, directly after school, to expose students to the rigor of college-level classes and instill in them that college is possible!

Bridge to College allows students to complete college courses while they complete middle school or high school. The course and books are free of cost!

To participate, students must:
Be enrolled in 7th-8th grade at the time of enrollment;
Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher;
Complete the YEP and Chabot College online application process.
Important Information
There will be 3-course options offered for Middle School students:
Intro to Sign Language - SL 64
Intro to Environmental Studies - ENST 1
Cultural Geography - GEO 2
Class dates are January 19, 2021 - May 28, 2021
Class meeting days/times: Tuesday and Thursday, 3:00-4:30 PM
Deadline to pre-register: 5:00 PM, Friday, November 6, 2020
Spring 2021 Bridge to College courses will be conducted in a distance learning format, online.
