ISLANDERS be aware the high tide at 00.30 BST Tuesday morning is expected to be the highest ever recorded at 5.75m together with a force 8/9 gale. Conditions on the seafront will be extreme dangerous so please stay away and if you live close to the areas mentioned below, you may want to take some precautions.

Clearly West Beach will suffer more drastic erosion and the recently completed shingle shuffle will again be decimated 😬

STAY SAFE 🤙

Flood warning for South Hayling at Sinah Common, Westfield, Sea View and Mengham
Updated 1:18pm on 8 April 2024
View map of the flood warning area(Visual only)
Tuesday's early morning tide at 00:15 on 09/04/2024 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 7 winds and large waves. The total forecast tide is 5.75 metres Chart Datum (3.02 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 2 hours either side of high water, very high energy waves could remove large amounts of shingle from the beach, causing overtopping across the southern frontage of Hayling Island. This may cause flooding to Sea Front Road, and impact the amusement park at Beachlands and the Golf Course at Sinah Common. Some road flooding may occur on the A3023 Beach Road near Beachlands Roundabout, Manor Way and Seagrove Avenue. Road and potentially property flooding may occur at St Andrew's Road (nearest Sea Front). After this tide the weather becomes more settled but minor impacts could continue until Thursday (11/04/2024). We are liaising with the local authority over beach conditions at South Hayling. We continue to monitor the forecast. If you have it, please install flood protection 2 hours before high tide. We will remove this message by 16:00 on 09/04/2024.

Flood warning area: Areas inland of South Hayling seafront including Sea View and Mengham north of seafront. Westfield, Sinah Common and Sinah Lane.

It’s now official, I’m standing for Havant Borough Council in the Hayling West Ward, as a Liberal Democrat Candidate.

I’ve been a life long Conservative voter, but have witnessed their inaction and growing apathy over the last 15 years, so decided to do something about it by standing against them.

We need change to sort out the big issues facing Islanders; over-development, total mismanagement of the seafront and the disgraceful sewage regularly being pumped into our harbours.

I and my Lib Dem colleagues Paul Gray and Wilf Forrow are committed to working with Islanders for the Island. Please vote for us and vote for change ❤️

Happy Easter All

It’s been a while, but following the May local elections, we will be pushing ahead to gain the required signatures on a petition requiring Havant BC to carry out a Community Governance Review, which would lead to a referendum of Hayling Islanders as to whether we want a Town Council for the Island.

With all the current mismanagement by Havant BC, now is the time to take a little power back and let Islanders decide their own fate.

15/05/2021

Its been a while since our last post, but now we are getting back to normality and once all restrictions have been lifted, we intend to start collecting signatures to force Havant BC to undertake a referendum on whether Hayling Island wants its own Town Council.
HBC have been failing us on many levels and some of these issues could be addressed by a Town Council.

15/03/2020

Just a quick update. We were working towards getting the petition out during April, but in view of the current situation with Covid-19 we will pause until later this year.

26/02/2020

HBC have confirmed that there are 14,864 Electors on Hayling Island. This means we will be required to secure 1,115 (7.5%) signatures on a petition to trigger HBC to carry out a community governance review. They have a year to to this from submission of the petition and this is where the hard campaign work will start.

WHAT IS A LOCAL COUNCIL?
A local council is a universal term for community, neighbourhood, parish and town councils. They are the first tier of local government and are statutory bodies. They serve electorates and are independently elected and raise their own precept (a form of council tax). There are 10,000 local councils in England with over 30% of the country parished and 100,000 councillors who serve in these local councils, with over £1b being invested into these communities every year.

Local councils work towards improving community well-being and providing better services. Their activities fall into three main categories: representing the local community; delivering services to meet local needs; striving to improve quality of life and community well-being.

Through an extensive range of discretionary powers local councils provide and maintain a variety of important and visible local services including allotments, bridleways, burial grounds, bus shelters, car parks, commons and open spaces, community transport schemes, community safety and crime reduction measures, events and festivals, footpaths, leisure and sports facilities, litter bins, public toilets, planning, street cleaning and lighting, tourism activities, traffic calming measures, village greens and youth projects.

23/02/2020

For the avoidance of doubt, Jonathan Hulls set up this page, to generate some interest in the idea of a Town Council on the Island. More details to follow, including the types of services and responsibilities, that could be undertaken.
Just to be clear for this to happen 7.5% of the registered electorate would have to sign a petition, HBC would then carry out a local governance review and then elections would take place for members of the town council. There would not be a self appointed President, as some are suggesting! All we are trying to achieve is giving the Islanders a stronger voice and a body to fight some of HBC recent policies which will ruin our beautiful Island.

Hi Islanders, please like this page and share with all your Hayling friends. We are aiming to set up a local council to protect the Island's interests and need everybodies support.
Let's take back some control.
